THE 12th state conference of Bihar AIDWA was held on October 19-20 at Madehpura Town Hall.  The conference called for launching struggles against patriarchy, communalism, for joint land titles to women, land for housing to the poor and against casteist and obscurantist ideologies prevalent in the country.On October 19th a procession was taken out in the town and at the district collectorate a public meeting was held. The procession and public meeting were attended by women from different walks of life.

SIX years back, Prime Minister Modi embarked on selling the "great power” dream to the Indian masses. In 2014, Modi announced his intention to make India a “leading power” in the international order. He assumed that the country was in a perfect position to manage global affairs to serve national interests. Many RSS sympathisers are convinced that the removal of Article 370 from J&K was undertaken at an appropriate time because Modi’s charisma has tilted the current global opinion in India’s favour.

INDIA decided to opt out of the RCEP on November 4, 2019 in a significant victory for the peasants and workers. The All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued by on November 5, has said that this is clearly a result of the immense pressure built by massive united protests of peasants and workers across the country. It is notable that the AIKS along with the AIAWU, CITU and the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee had massive protests with burning of effigies of the prime minister and RCEP across India on the same day in addition to series of protests earlier.

COMRADE Zahoor Siddiqui, veteran communist and leader of the teachers’ movement in Delhi, passed away in Aligarh on November 3. He was 80 years old. Zahoor Siddiqui was amongst the first batch of members of the CPI(M) in Delhi. He became a member of the regional committee of the CPI(M)  whose area of work included Delhi, Haryana and Western UP. Later when the Delhi state committee of the Party was formed in 1977, he became a member of the secretariat of the state committee.

Comrade Gurudas Dasgupta, veteran  leader of the CPI and prominent trade union leader , passed away on October 31. He was a former deputy general secretary of the CPI. As the general secretary of the AITUC for a long time, he played an important role in developing the united trade union movement.Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPI(M), in a message to CPI, has conveyed his condolences to the family members and comrades of Comrade Gurudas Dasgupta.
