Logistics Agreement with US Denounced

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on August 30, 2016.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the signing of the Logistics Support Agreement between the United States and India which will allow the American armed forces to access and use Indian military bases. The Logistics agreement termed as the Logistic Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) has been signed in Washington during the visit of Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar. By signing such an agreement, India has acquired the formal status of a military ally of the US

Bihar Floods: Provide Immediate Relief

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on August 26. THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its concern at the devastation caused by the severe flooding of the river Ganga in the state of Bihar. The PB expresses grief at the immense loss of lives and property. As of now 135 people have been killed and 35 lakh affected in 12 districts in the state. The Polit Bureau urges upon the Bihar state government to organise the provision of immediate relief and adequate compensation for those who have lost virtually everything.

Valiant Strike in West Bengal Braving Terror

The Strike struggle in West Bengal had to be conducted against odds and terror created by the TMC government and the ruling party. Mamata Banerjee administration has the distinction of being the only government which had declared war against the general strike. The state government issued a circular for the state government employees threatening them with ‘dies non’ and stoppage of salary. Uniquely, the state government has also declared that the day prior to the strike day and the next working day would be counted within this instruction.

The signing of the draft peace accord between the government of Colombia and the country's main rebel grouping, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in Havana on June 23, had heralded the end of the longest running civil war in Latin America. The All India Democratic Women’s Association has issued the following statement on August 26A much delayed Bill to address the issues surrounding surrogacy has been reportedly cleared in a cabinet meeting of the present NDA government on August 24, 2016.  There has been a long standing demand from many organisations and groups for a separate law to ensure that women, especially from the poorer sections are not exploited by the increasing pulls and pressures of this multi-million dollar medical industry.

Historic Convention at Dharwad Government Given Two Weeks Deadline

DHARWAD, a peaceful education centre of northern Karnataka was witness to a historic march and convention on August 30. Thousands of writers, artists, intellectuals, teachers, students, concerned citizens from all corners of state and the country marched through the city streets in a silent procession and held a massive convention amidst incessant rains. It was organised by Committee against Murder of Dabholkar, Pansare, Kalburgi – a coalition of over hundred organisations from Karnataka and other states. Oppose Niti Ayog's Proposal for Corporate Takeover of Medical Education

What is important to note here that almost all the complaints of violations of norms and of recommendations for closure of colleges pertain to those in the private sector.In a move that is fraught with far reaching and extremely adverse consequences for medical education in India, the Niti Ayog has recently (on August 7, 2016) published a report titled "A Preliminary Report of the Committee on the Reform of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956". The report is designed to reform the entire system of medical education in India.
