ON November 10, 2019, President Evo Morales Ayma of Bolivia announced his resignation from the presidency. Morales had been elected in 2014 to a third presidential term, which should have lasted until January 2020. In November 2019, protests around his fourth electoral victory in October led to the police and the military asking Morales to step down; by every description of the term, this was a coup d’état.

IN his Independence Day speech this year, the prime minister has made a ‘major’ announcement. It is about the launching of NDHM (National Digital Health Mission). He said, “From today, a major campaign is being launched in which technology will play a big role. The National Digital Health Mission is being launched today. This will bring a new revolution in India’s health sector and it will help reduce problems in getting treatment with the help of technology,” PM has said.What NDHM scheme proposes to do for the citizen’s healthcare?

THE BJP as we know is a Hindu-supremacist party. It is the political front of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a fascistic organisation which believes in establishing a Hindu rashtra. Though the BJP itself cannot openly espouse this vision because of its need to remain within the four corners of the constitution, it is trying its best to realise this vision de facto. But what does a Hindu rashtra really mean? The fact that it entails the subversion of secularism and the reduction of the Muslim minority, in particular, to the status of second class citizens, is clear.

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in a statement issued on August 10, has expressed its agreement with the latest three bench Supreme Court judgement which clarifies the law relating to a daughter’s right under Section 6 of the amended Hindu Succession Act (HSA) in 2005. The amendments in the HSA in 2005 made the daughter an equal coparcener (member) in the joint Hindu family governed by the Mitakshara law and removed the restriction on her from asking for partition of a joint family property.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has urged prime minister Narendra Modi to take measures  on war footing to protect lives and provide relief to the people of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands from Covid-19 pandemic. He urged the PM to take steps to set up more testing and health centres in the islands.
