Floods

The Polit Bureau expressed its deep concern at the severe and widespread floods which have affected Jammu & Kashmir. The floods have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives, widespread destruction of property and displacement of lakhs of people from their homes.

Afghan Politics: Flawed Elections

IN what was more or less a replay of the presidential elections held four years ago, Abdullah Abdullah, has once again charged that the election process this time was also deeply flawed and that he was robbed of certain victory. As the voting trends became clear in early July and his main rival building up an unassailable lead, Abdullah dramatically announced that he would refuse to recognise the results of the elections.

On Forthcoming Haryana Assembly Elections

THE upcoming assembly polls in four states namely Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir should also be seen in the overall context of the political situation at the national level with the Modi-led NDA assuming power at the centre in the last Lok Sabha elections. Not surprisingly, this government has begun with pursuing even more vigorously the same neo-liberal policies for which the people had ousted the UPA government from power.

First Telangana CITU Conference Calls for Demands Day on Oct 6

THE first conference of Telangana CITU was held from September 5-7, 2014 in Khammam city with great enthusiasm. The whole Khammam city was charged with conference atmosphere and support of the local people was visible. The conference was held in the background of the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It was held in the background of the fall of the UPA government at the centre and coming to power of the BJP government with absolute majority aided by a media blitzkrieg supported by corporate moneybags.

Fight Modi Govt’s Onslaught on Public Sector

AN extended meeting of the trade unions of Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSU) was held at BTR Bhavan, New Delhi from August 30 to 31. Around 150 delegates from about 40 CPSUs comprising major sectors like coal, steel, oil and natural gas, power, heavy engineering, telecommunication, electronics, shipping, port & docks and construction, and Bangalore-based PSUs representing around 50 trade union organisations from 14 states participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by CITU general secretary Tapan Sen and A. K.

Raise Voice against Govt Move to Disinvest FCI

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi has raised some points, in Parliament on June 19 regarding the Food Corporation of India (FCI), that are not in the interests of our people as well as for the employees. The Food Corporation of India was started in 1965 for proper distribution of food grains to the people of our country, especially those living in rural areas. Since then FCI was engaged in food distribution. Our country is very vast and all provinces are not equally agriculture producing state.
