70th Anniversary of Victory over Fascism Observed

SEVENTY years have passed since the victory over fascism, with the defeat of Hitler and hoisting of Red Flag over the Reichstag, but a new trend is emerging in our country whereby the Hindutva and right-wing forces are trying to implement what Hitler tried and eventually failed. As the Hindutva and right-wing forces attempt to replace India's secular and democratic traditions with a "neo-fascist" system, there is a need to strengthen the Left and democratic forces to counter these challenges.

ON May 26, the Modi government enters its second year. Without any doubt, one can assert that this government has created a record for its assault on the rights of the working people of this country. Jharkhand Observe Historic Strike against Land Acquisition Bill

THE one-day Jharkhand bandh against the anti-people Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill of the Centre on May 4 was a historic success. THE acquittal of Jayalalithaa by the Karnataka High Court in the disproportionate assets case has highlighted an undeniable fact of the judicial system in India -- that the rich and the powerful cannot be brought to justice for corruption and abuse of power. Jayalalithaa and three of her associates had been found guilty by a Special Court in September last year and sentenced to four years imprisonment and a Rs. 100 crore fine. A single judge bench of the High Court has overturned this verdict.
