SFI – TSF - DSU Alliance Sweeps UoH Polls with Huge Majority

IN the University of Hyderabad Students’ Union elections 2015, the alliance of Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Tribal Student’s Forum (TSF) and Dalit Students’ Union (DSU) with an unconditional support of Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika (TVV) emerged victorious by defeating Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and United Democratic alliance (UDA) by a huge margin. UDA primarily consists of Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA) and National Students’ Union (NSUI).

DSMM Protests against Dankaur Atrocity on Dalit Family

Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch’s Delhi unit had organised a protest near Uttar Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi on October 14. Activists who had gathered near the UP Bhavan for a sit-in were arrested by the Delhi police and taken to Chanakyapuri Police Station. After strong protests against this undemocratic step of the Delhi police, the DSMM was allowed to hold a protest demonstration at Teen Murti Circle. The demonstration was addressed by V Srinivas Rao, G Mamatha, Nathu Prasad, DSMM leaders and AIDWA Delhi secretary, Sehba Farooqui.

Kerala Gears Up for Panchayat Polls; LDF Confident of Victory

IN two weeks’ time, 2.5 crore voters of Kerala will go to polling booths to elect their nominees for the three-tier panchayats. Fourteen districts of the state will go to polls in two phases – November 2 and November 5 – with seven districts polling in each phase. In the first phase, polling will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargode districts. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Eranakulam, Trichur, Malappuram, Palaghat will vote in the second phase.

Comrade Ajay Srivastava Passes Away

SENIOR comrade of the Loklahar editorial staff, Ajay Srivastava passed away in the early hours of October 12, 2015. He suffered a massive heart attack. He was ailing with diabetes which had affected his kidney.Comrade Ajay Srivastava was born in a Left oriented middle class family in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh on April 27, 1959. He was the youngest but the senior most member of the current editorial team of the Loklahar.

Mainpuri Attack: Take Firm Action

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on October 10.

THE violence in Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh once again highlights how the issue of cow slaughter is being utilised to target the minority community. A mob attacked four men who were accused of killing a cow, two of whom are injured and in a critical condition. Some shops belonging to Muslims were set on fire. The Polit Bureau condemns these attacks.

Oppose Malabar Exercises

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on October 12.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its strong opposition to the Malabar joint naval exercises going to be conducted from the day after tomorrow, October 14 to 21.Begun in 1992 as joint naval exercises between the Indian and US navies and institutionalised with the Indo-US defence framework agreement signed in 2005, the exercises are notable this year, for the participation of the Japanese navy.

Writers Stand Up

INDIA’S writers have done the country proud.  They have stood up to condemn the rising attack on freedom of expression, the worst manifestation of which was the killing of Prof M M Kalburgi who was murdered by extremists on August 30.
