Thinking Together

In the 21st Party Congress, you have reviewed "Our growing weakness was the electoral alliance and adjustment that we had entered into with various regional parties". "By this we compromised the identity and independent role of our Party" and therefore "could not gain the people’s confidence". In this review, I am afraid, you might have missed to refer to, as it appears, our alliance with the Congress under the pseudonym Congress for democracy in Tripura in, perhaps, 1977 and our alliance with the Congress at the centre in 2004 with varied results.

The resolution on Tripura was moved by Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau member and seconded by G Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau member. The following is the text of the resolution.

TRIPURA, a small state in north-east, has evolved into an exemplary dynamic developing state under the Left Front government. On October Revolution Centenary

THIS Plenum on Organisation reiterates with emphasis our 21st Congress resolution on the centenary of the Russian revolution that called for 'celebrations to commemorate the centenary year in all-round way', beginning November 7, 2016 by organising events 'in the political, ideological, and cultural spheres', and 'to conduct a campaign to propagate socialism'.The Great October Revolution had for the first time in human history, resoundingly vindicated Marxism-Leninism through the establishment of a proletarian State.

Barbaric Attack on SFI Leader by RSS-ABVP Goons

THE central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India, in a statement issued on December 21, has strongly condemned the cold-blooded attack on Subhash Jakhar, SFI Sikar district secretary by the RSS-ABVP criminals. He is admitted to SK Hospital in a critical condition with 25 stitches on his head.  SFI has also condemned in strongest possible words the police attack on the protest demanding immediate arrest of the culprits behind the heinous crime. Hundreds of SFI activists were arrested by the police in Sikar. Many were manhandled and picked up even from the office of SFI.

AP: Police Brutality on Anganwadi Workers Seeking Wage Hike

THOUSANDS of anganwadi workers, under the banners of CITU and AITUC, took out a massive rally from Tumallapalli Kalakshetram to lay siege to the chief minister’s camp office in Vijayawada, demanding immediate solution to their long-pending grievances. The anganwadi workers on December 18 organised ’Chalo Vijayawada' programme to seek implementation of the wage hike assurance. The Chandrababu government reneged on its promise of implementing the wage hike from September 1 and dilly-dallying on the issue by saying that a cabinet sub-committee will look into the demand of wage hike.

Secularism versus Hindutva

IT is only the ideologues of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, past and present, who have always opposed the idea of secular State because the idea of Hindutva is in antagonistic contradiction with the “basic structure of secular, republican and democratic constitution of India.” It deserves to be clearly emphasised that every controversy around the meaning and concept of Indian secularism has originated from the Sangh Parivar and the RSS swayam sevaks whether Lal Krishna Advani famous for his castigating the secularists as ‘pseudo’ or Rajnath Singh, a loyal RSS swayam sevak and the home ministe
