Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship: Explosive Innovation, Horror for Workers’ Safety

THE massive Starship super-heavy lift launch vehicle by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company took off last week on November 18, 2023 on its second test flight.  The launcher is the largest and most powerful ever built, weights 5,000 tonnes and can carry payloads of 100-150 tonnes. The launcher is a 2-stage vehicle comprising the booster and the spaceship atop, both stages being powered by SpaceX’s own Raptor engine, 33 of which power the booster.

Uttarakhand: CITU-Led Delegation Visits Collapsed Tunnel Site

A DELEGATION of the Uttarakhand state committee of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) led by Rajendra Singh Negi visited the site of the unfortunate accident at the under-construction Yamunotri National Highway Tunnel located at Silkyara in district Uttarkashi where 41 workers have been stranded for the past seven days.The delegation expressed its outrage at the delay in rescue work and demanded that FIRs be registered against the principal employer of the NHAI and the company under contract responsible for the construction of the tunnel.

Fifty Years of Athens Polytechnic Uprising Commemorated

ON November 17, thousands of people marched through the streets of Athens and various other cities across Greece, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising. The march in Athens started from a large square near the Polytechnic, passed in front of the Greek Parliament, and concluded at the US embassy. Every year since 1974, on November 17th each year, a march to the US embassy is held to commemorate the heroic Polytechnic uprising.

Maha: CPI(M) Makes Headway in Gram Panchayat Polls in Palghar and Other Districts

THE CPI(M) made some headway in the limited gram panchayat elections held in Maharashtra on November 5, 2023. The results were declared next day on November 6. The sarpanch is now elected in the state through direct elections, with the whole village voting. Besides that, gram panchayat members are elected from various wards in the village. The CPI(M) won a total of 11 sarpanches and 133 gram panchayat members in these polls.The CPI(M) won the posts of 8 out of 13 sarpanches and 100 out of 167 gram panchayat seats in the Talasari and Dahanu tehsils of Palghar district.
