NOT even the festive spirit of Durga Puja could overshadow the burning demand for justice in Kolkata. Left-wing student, youth and women’s organisations staged a massive rally in Dharmatala, braving heavy rains and police restrictions, to declare that the fight for justice will continue unabated. The rally, held on September 26th  afternoon, saw a massive turnout of young protesters who defied police orders and barricades.

A huge Parivartan Rally was held in Bhiwani, Haryana on October 2, in support of Omprakash, the CPI(M) candidate for the assembly elections who is backed by the INDIA bloc. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Subhashini Ali addressed the large gathering, urging voters to reject the anti-people BJP government in the state and the Narendra Modi-led government at the centre.

THE recent letter signed by 26 eminent scientists and academics addressed to the principal scientific advisor of the government of India, in response to the 2024 Vigyan Yuva S S Bhatnagar awards  is remarkable and important in many ways.Firstly, because the signatories are among the most distinguished and highly awarded persons in the country in the fields of the physical sciences, life sciences and mathematics.
