Maha: CPI(M) Campaigns for Defeat of BJP-NDA and Victory of MVA-INDIA

THREE of the five rounds of the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra will be completed by the time this report is published. Overall, it is clear that so far it is advantage Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA-INDIA), so far as Maharashtra is concerned. The three major constituents of the MVA are the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray group), the Congress, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar group). The smaller constituents of the MVA include Left and secular parties. Massive rallies of the MVA are being held across the state in all the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies.

BJP to Lose its Dominance in Karnataka

KARNATAKA went to polls in Phase 2 (14 seats of southern Karnataka on April 19) and in Phase 3 (14 seats of northern Karnataka on May 7), completing the electoral process. With the significant victory in last year's Vidhan Sabha (assembly) elections, Congress is striving to replicate its success. BJP, on the other hand, seeks to emulate its performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Voter turnout was notable, with 69.56 per cent recorded in Phase 1 and 70.41 per cent in Phase 2. Unlike other states, there has been no decline in the percentage of votes cast.

West Bengal Elections: Shifting Political Landscape

MAYBE many people thought that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bengal would also be in the familiar pattern. A mock war between PM Modi and chief minister Mamata will go on with both sides resorting to extremely hostile snides. Even if central forces are deployed by the Election Commission to ensure fairness at the booth level, the local areas will be dominated by Trinamool-backed miscreants.Recent happenings have highlighted the corruption and misgovernance that is rampant in the state.

Jharkhand: Defeat BJP, Uphold Secular Values

THE Jharkhand state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to field its candidate for only one Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand. The Party's all-India election strategy aims to defeat the BJP and its allies and ensure the formation of a secular government at the centre. Keeping this in mind and considering the political situation of the state, CPI(M) has decided to contest elections on only one seat.Preparations for the Party's election campaign on Rajmahal Lok Sabha seat have been going on for a long time.

On the Question of the Inheritance Tax

NARENDRA Modi’s pronouncements on the inheritance tax show a degree of frivolity that is quite amazing and hardly expected of a prime minister. The Congress Party’s Sam Pitroda had mentioned the possibility of an inheritance tax, to which Modi’s response was not a reasoned argument (and there are a few he could have mentioned) but a set of deliberate and banal misinterpretations that make the proposal appear ridiculous; what should have been a serious debate became just maliciously farcical.

Strong Left is the Need of the Hour

IN the 2004 parliament elections, the BJP was defeated and the Congress could not get sufficient majority to form the government.  The Left emerged as a big force with 61 MPs, the CPI(M) with 44 MPs.  The Left offered support to Congress to form the government provided a common minimum programme is adopted. In this background, the UPA-I government was formed with Manmohan Singh as the prime minister duly accepting the demand for a common minimum programme.During that period as part of the common minimum programme, different sections of the people got benefited.
