Tripura: Lenin’s Birth Anniversary Observed

Arupratan Sarma

COMRADE Lenin’s 155th birth anniversary was observed in the whole state of Tripura on April 22, 2025. On this occasion, a hall meeting was organised by the CPI(M) state committee in Town Hall, Agartala. People in large numbers attended the meeting that was addressed by Manik Sarkar, senior leader of CPI(M), Jitendra Chaudhury, Polit Bureau member and Ratan Das, secretary of West Tripura district committee. The meeting was presided over by senior leader Aghore Debbarma. Floral tributes were offered at the portrait of Lenin by the speakers as well as the leaders and people present in the meeting, including Manik Dey and Krishna Rakshit, both Central Committee members, Tapan Chakraborty, Rama Das, Radhacharan Debbarma, Sudhan Das, Shankar Prasad Datta, all state secretariat members, and Narayan Kar and Salil Debbarma, both veteran leaders. At the onset, mass songs were presented by the artistes of Tripura Sanskriti Samannay Kendra.

In his speech Manik Sarkar described Lenin as a person of indomitable spirit. Observing his birthday enables us to get rejuvenated with new learnings, he told. While Lenin had enormous accomplishments in his life, his biggest contribution was to establish socialism in the erstwhile Soviet Union. That is an exemplary achievement for the whole world to follow. The revolutionary path that we, the citizens of the world are treading with red flag in hand was first shown by Lenin. Commenting on the US President Donald Trump, Sarkar told that Trump is trying to create a worldwide chaos of a gigantic proportion. This is in fact a desperate attempt of capitalism and imperialism to come out of the acute crisis that has engulfed them. Trump is trying his level best to throttle the socialist countries. Trump first started an ugly tariff war against China, but China has retaliated hard. He is trying to harden the blockade around Cuba, but does not have the courage to attack the country directly. It is clear from the deeds of Trump that the fundamental battle is being fought between capitalism and socialism. With the capitalism getting more and more desperate to come out of the crisis, this battle is likely to be fiercer. Coming to the domestic situation, Sarkar told that the nation is being directed towards neo-fascism. Economy of the country has been opened wide for loot by domestic and foreign corporates. Democracy and secularism are under severe attack. Common man’s struggle for existence is becoming harder and harder. If we want to lift our nation from the deep crisis, mass and class struggles must be intensified. And here comes the relevance of Lenin. His teachings will guide us to intensify class struggle which will ultimately lead us to victory.

Polit Bureau member Jitendra Chaudhury told in his speech that, a long period of 35 years has passed since the collapse of the Soviet Union, built by Lenin. After the collapse it was declared by the proponents of capitalism that socialism did not have a future. But the series of events in the contemporary world clearly show the relevance and superiority of socialism. Socialist countries like China, Cuba and Vietnam are proceeding on the way shown by Lenin. While the socialist countries are showing exemplary achievements to the whole world, US President Donald Trump is trying to subdue them through the tariff war. But the countries like China are not bowing down in front of US, rather they are retaliating. Regarding India, Chaudhury told that the country is being ruled by corporate-communal nexus, led by the RSS-BJP. They want to establish dictatorship by stripping the common people of their fundamental rights. They are trying to drag the working people into slavery. Even the constitutional rights of people are being robbed of. He reminded that the dream of NDA of getting 400+ seats and of the BJP to win 370 seats in the last Lok Sabha election has already got shattered. But the BJP has not learnt any lesson. They are still continuing with their anti-people agenda. He mentioned that if we want to come out of the crisis, we have to learn from the life and works of Lenin, and to reach out to common people to organise them.

The meeting ended with the International song.
