Rainy Days! Auctioning Assets to Meet Defence Needs

SIX years back, Prime Minister Modi embarked on selling the "great power” dream to the Indian masses. In 2014, Modi announced his intention to make India a “leading power” in the international order. He assumed that the country was in a perfect position to manage global affairs to serve national interests. Many RSS sympathisers are convinced that the removal of Article 370 from J&K was undertaken at an appropriate time because Modi’s charisma has tilted the current global opinion in India’s favour.

INDIA decided to opt out of the RCEP on November 4, 2019 in a significant victory for the peasants and workers. The All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued by on November 5, has said that this is clearly a result of the immense pressure built by massive united protests of peasants and workers across the country. It is notable that the AIKS along with the AIAWU, CITU and the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee had massive protests with burning of effigies of the prime minister and RCEP across India on the same day in addition to series of protests earlier.

A Significant Strike Struggle

THE strike by the workers of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has emerged as one of the most significant struggles against privatisation.  48,000 employees of the TSRTC have been on an indefinite strike for over a month, from October 5.  The unity and determination of the striking workers in the face of brazen threats by the chief minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, police repression and victimisation have been remarkable. The workers went on strike demanding merger of the RTC with the government, pay revision, recruitment to various posts among other demands.  The demand f

Tipu Sultan and BJP’s War on History

WE now see a new Anglo-Mysore War being waged: the RSS has aligned with the British to deny Tipu Sultan his role in Indian history. Yediyurappa says Tipu was “not a freedom fighter”, a strange argument to give for dropping all reference to Tipu from history books. It must be difficult for a mind schooled – or more correctly lobotomised – in the RSS School of History to understand that the Anglo Mysore Wars were not wars for Indian independence, but a part of colonial wars that the British waged.
