He highlighted that humanity is characterised by rationality, setting us apart as rational animals.

SKM, CTUs to Hold United National Convention

AUGUST 24, 2023 will see a historic event in India. For the first time ever, the huge Talkatora Stadium in the nation’s capital Delhi will be witness to a joint convention of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and the Central Trade Unions (CTUs). These two platforms today represent the broadest sections of the peasantry and the working class of India.Over 5,000 delegates representing several organisations of workers, peasants, and agricultural workers will join this convention. Here, the importance of worker-peasant unity will be stressed.

THE nutritional status of the Indian population has been going down slowly but surely during the last three decades, the period of neo-liberal economic reforms. The five-yearly National Sample Survey reports on nutritional intake in India have been registering decline in per capita calorie intake as well as protein intake (but rise in fat intake, concentrated with the top spending groups). The nutritional decline started earliest in rural India, with urban areas joining in the decline later.

Maha: Elections to Mumbai University Senate & Academic Council BUCTU Trounces Right Wing Opponents

THE Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU) once again and unequivocally reaffirmed its stamp of authority in the affairs of University of Mumbai with an overwhelming victory in the just concluded elections to the senate and academic council with a thumping majority.Elections with preferential voting system were held for ten senate seats (five general and five reserved) and eight academic council seats. The results of these elections were declared on July 7, 2023. BUCTU contested all ten senate seats and won eight out of ten.

Kerala CM Assures to Provide Market Support For Apple Farmers through Co-operatives

ON August 5th, a delegation from the Apple Farmers’ Federation of India (AFFI) met with Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, in New Delhi to explore opportunities for establishing a robust marketing network within the domestic market of Kerala through co-operatives. The objective of this initiative is to ensure fair and profitable prices for apple farmers from the states of Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 9THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the remarks made by Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP, on the floor of the Lok Sabha against the CPI(M) and its former general secretary that they are a so-called "deshdrohi party".Dubey also refers, in flagrant violation of established parliamentary procedures, to "thousands of mails" that he wants to bring on record to prove his point. Let him do so, so that the utter falsity of his claims are exposed.

Mewat Violence: Foil the Venomous Game plan

THE violence in Nuh district, Haryana, on July 31st was not a random incident or a result of law enforcement oversight, as some perceive. It was a premeditated conspiracy, forming part of the BJP's larger communal strategy that has been unfolding systematically. A team, including Inderjit Singh, former Central Committee member of CPI(M) and AIKS vice president, CITU state general secretary Jai Bhagwan, along with Vinod and Akhtar Husain, visited Nuh and neighbouring villages on August 5.

Protest against BJP Govt's Failure to Curb Violence in Manipur

THE Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch (DSMM) and Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM) jointly organised a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on August 5 against the divisive BJP agenda in Manipur. The protesters demanded Chief Minister N Biren Singh's removal and effective restoration of law and order. Speakers included DSMM's general secretary and Polit Bureau member of CPI (M) Ram Chandra Dom, AARM's national secretary and CPI(M) Central Committee member, Jitendra Choudhary, Nathu Prasad Delhi state secretary of DSMM and Vumsuan Naulak of Manipur Tribal Forum.

Restore Democracy in Jammu & Kashmir Hold Assembly Elections

The Central Committee of the CPI(M), in session in New Delhi on August 5, has adopted the following resolution:AUGUST 5, 2023 marks the completion of four years since the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 being annulled and the state of Jammu and Kashmir dismantled. This assault on the constitution and federalism presaged an all-round attack on the rights of citizens in Jammu and Kashmir.The last five years under central rule have seen steps to alter the very identity of Jammu and Kashmir with change in domicile laws and land rights.

Jharkhand: Tributes Paid to Martyr Subhash Munda

"CPI(M) and its Red Flag are destined to reach even greater heights! We shall continue to uphold the legacy of Subhash Munda and his predecessors," declared Chhotun Devi Munda, the mother of the late Comrade Subhash Munda, during a resolute gathering on August 3, 2023. This meeting took place at the recently renamed Shaheed Subhash Munda Chowk, formerly known as Daladali Chowk.Preceding the gathering, Brinda Karat, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, unveiled a statue honouring Subhash Munda and inaugurated the newly christened chowk.
