Face-off between Judiciary and Executive on Appointment of Judges

CHIEF Justice of India T S Thakur in an open court accused the government of trying to “decimate the judiciary and lock justice out”. Citing the case of the Karnataka High Court, the CJI said that one entire floor of courtrooms was locked up because there were no judges. In the Allahabad High Court, half of the sanctioned strength of 160 judges are lying vacant.

CPI(M) Haryana State Committee Plenum Held at Kaithal

 At the outset, Sitaram Yechury said that because of the sharp decline in both the influence and strength of the Party at the national level, the Vizag Party Congress had felt the need for calling the Plenum to discuss organisational problems to remove bottlenecks to strengthen the revolutionary movement in the country, to improve the Party’s strength and to mobilise people behind the Party. The political aspect was taken up in the political report to the Party Congress.

Eighteenth IMCWP Held at Hanoi

THE Communist Party of Vietnam hosted the 18th International Meeting of the Communist and Workers' Parties, which was held for the first time in a socialist country, from October 28-30. The theme of the meeting was, “Capitalist crisis and imperialist offensive - strategy and tactics of the communist and workers’ parties in struggle for peace, workers’ and peoples’ rights, socialism.” M A Baby, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and head of the international department attended the meeting.

Innovative Steps at Party Building to Achieve the Chinese Dream

A CPI(M) cadre delegation visited China from August 24 to September 3, 2016 at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The main theme was “to study the new initiatives in building the Communist Party of China in pursuance of the Chinese dream”. The CPI(M) delegation visited Kunming (capital of the relatively less developed province of Yunnan, bordering Burma), Jinggangshang (called the Cradle of the Chinese Revolution due to its rich revolutionary history) in Jiangxi province, and the Chinese capital Beijing.

THOUSANDS of people took part in various programmes organised across the country on November 7 to mark the centenary of the Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia, a historic event which stimulates every struggle for the emancipation of humanity from all kinds of exploitation. Peasantry, being that section of the population whose production feeds the entire nation, is being compelled to resort to suicides and starvation deaths due to complete lack of apathy on the part of the government. This lackadaisical stand of the government can only be responded by a firm whip of mass movements.

CPI(M) Holds Workshop on Caste Oppression for Hindi States

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a two-day workshop on caste oppression for the Hindi speaking states. 68 comrades from 10 states attended the workshop. The workshop underscored that for developing the Party and the Left and democratic movement in the Hindi-speaking states, it is essential to take up social issues. Among the various social problems, the major issue is of the deep-rooted caste system and the caste oppression engendered by it. Class exploitation and caste oppression are inextricably intertwined.

THE Narendra Modi government decided to decisively respond to the terrorist attack on the army camp at Uri on September 18, in which 19 soldiers were killed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led from the front and his first statement on September 24, while participating at the BJP national council meeting in Kozhikode, was that there is nationwide “aakrosh (anger)”.
