LAST week, the world woke up to the largest cyber security threat ever, with a ransomware wannacry originating from NSA's cache of cyber weapons, infecting hundreds of thousands of computers. Computers in more than 150 countries have been infected by the ransomware, with the users locked out of their vital files and data. The criminal group behind wannacry want $300 in bitcoin as ransom, for releasing the files back to their users. The ransom note, displayed on the hacked machines, also say that the ransom will double if the victims do not pay up within three days.
CPI(M) general secretary and member of parliament, Sitaram Yechury has written a letter to the minister for social justice and empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot on May 16, 2017 expressing concern over the manner in which rules are being framed for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.The letter noted that in the 2016 winter session of parliament, whereas no other legislative business could be considered, it was only the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill that was taken up and passed in both houses after a debate.
WITH the aim of reaching Shabbirpur village in Saharanpur district of UP, a delegation led by Than Singh, convenor of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch and comprising of Rao Daud Khan, district secretary of the CPI(M), Advocate Vikram Singh and Vikas Negi from Moradabad and Advocate Rajneesh Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Navneet Singh and Surendra Kumar from Deoband, visited Saharanpur on May 9.The police administration of Saharanpur has so far not allowed any delegation from outside to visit Shabbirpur. The delegation therefore could not visit the site of the incidents.
CPI(M) Polit Bureau members Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali along with the affected dalit families from the Shabbirpur village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh met the president of India on May 17, 2017, and handed over a memorandum. The president gave the delegation a very sympathetic hearing and expressed his anguish. He said that he would do whatever was in his power to ensure justice to the dalits of Shabbirpur.
