EEFI Lauds UP Electricity Employees for Fighting Privatisation

THE Electricity Employees Federation of India (EEFI), in a statement issued on October 7, has conveyed warm greetings to all the participants and constituent organisations of Vidyut Karmachari Sanjukta Sangharsha Samity (VKSSS), UP, for their heroic struggle to oppose the move of Uttar Pradesh government to privatise electricity distribution. Lauding the efforts of VKSSS, it said that the unity of the electricity employees made them victorious and that they have set an example before the working class of our country.

This was on the immediate lockdown related demands of workers and toiling people, opposing the labour codes that curtail the existing rights and benefits of the workers and also the privatisation drive of the BJP led government.Workers across the country responded in a big way to this call.  Their participation in the demonstrations was even larger than that on the all India Protest Day on August 9, 2020, which was observed with the slogan ‘Save India’.

BPCL Strike A Pointer to Growing Resistance against BJP: CITU

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) congratulated the workers of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) for two days strike action on September 7-8, against the privatisation of BPCL and the BJP government and called it a pointer to growing resistance against the BJP government.Tapan Sen, general secretary of CITU noted that BPCL was formed by taking over a multinational company through an Act of Parliament in 1976.

Transport Industry on the Verge of Collapse, Unions Tell Minister

THE All India Co-ordination Committee of Road Transport Workers Organisations (AICCORTWO) has called for a protest day on August 5, in a move to draw attention to the severe crisis that is pushing the transport industry to collapse during the Covid-19 pandemic despite the workers being on duty braving dire conditions. K K Divakaran, convenor of AICCORTWO, has written to the union transport minister, Nitin Gadkari to bring to his notice the serious issues faced by transport workers in the country.

Red Flag Railway Privatisation

THE working class and the people of our country have red flagged the Modi led BJP government’s moves to privatise the railways in the country.Thousands of workers across the country participated in the demonstrations opposing the unbundling of Indian Railways into pieces and handing it over to the corporate – domestic and foreign. According to the reports, demonstrations were held in front of 717 major railway stations in 22 states across the country.

CITU Seeks Withdrawal of Air India’s Leave without Pay System

CITU general secretary, Tapan Sen, lodged a complaint with the union secretary of labour and employment and the chief labour commissioner (central), against the management of Air India. He urged them to intervene and resolve the issue of Air India employees who were forced to go on compulsory leave without payment.Tapan Sen, in his complaint filed on July 19, said that the Air India Limited had unilaterally altered the service conditions of its employees and imposed provisions of forced compulsory leave without pay.
