A SURVEY by the CITU’s Telangana state unit has revealed the problems and precariousness of gig workers who have been growing rapidly in numbers. Gig workers, including those who work for platforms such as Uber, Ola, Zomato, Blinkit and Porter, do not have minimum security and are subjected to severe exploitation. In addition to those who depend completely on ‘gig’ work, the number of those who work part time on these platforms is also increasing. Young women are also entering this field. There are 8-10 lakh gig workers in Telangana.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has debunked the government’s fraudulent claims made on the four Labour Codes and demanded repeal of the decision to make them effective from November 21, 2025 as announced in the PIB statement of the same day.

The All India Fishers and Fisheries Workers’ Federation (AIFFWF) has condemned the repeated arrests of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. In yet another incident on October 8–9, 47 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry were taken into custody in two separate operations, and five fishing boats were seized. These fishermen, ordinary working people from Rameswaram, Thangachimadam, and Karaikal, were not trespassers or criminals. They were out in the sea for their daily livelihood when the Sri Lankan Navy intercepted and detained them.

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), in a statement issued on August 4, has unequivocally condemned the brazen and disastrous mass retrenchment plan of India’s largest IT company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which is set to affect 2 per cent of its global workforce – over 12,000 employees across India. This sudden attack has been unleashed upon the workforce at a time when TCS reported consolidated revenue of Rs 2,55,324 crore for FY 2024–25 – a 6 per cent year-on-year growth – and the industry’s highest operating profit margin of 24.3 per cent.

THE General Strike on July 9 gave a glimpse of the anger of the workers and the toiling people against their worsening conditions imposed by the neoliberal policies aggressively pursued by the NDA government led by Modi. The call for the General Strike given by the joint platform of central trade unions and independent sectoral federations received magnificent response from the working class and support from the mass of the common people.
