SIXTH all India girls’ convention of SFI was held successfully in Sikar, Rajasthan, from December 17-19, 2021, with the slogan of combating gendered push out in educational institutes. The anti-people government at the centre has coupled up the challenges put forward by the pandemic and its unprecedented affect on the common mass. A huge number of students from marginalised families are forced to leave studies and commit to an unhealthy work atmosphere due to the financial meltdown and apathy of the ruling government.

Historic Farmers’ Struggle in India: An Overview

THE unprecedented farmers’ struggle that began at the borders of India’s capital Delhi on November 26, 2020, and which won a historic victory over the reactionary forces of corporate communalism and also imperialism a full one year and fifteen days later on December 11, 2021, has been by far the largest, the longest and the most powerful nationwide farmers’ struggle in the history of India, and also in the world. This struggle had several distinctive features.

Valiant Struggle of Electricity Employees and Engineers in J&K

ELECTRICITY employees and engineers of Jammu and Kashmir achieved a major victory after a valiant struggle through an indefinite strike call from December 17-18 midnight against the move to privatise the power sector that has been initiated through the formation of a joint venture company with J&K Power Transmission Corporation Limited (PTCL) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).

Successful Two-Day Bank Strike

AROUND 10 lakh employees and officers observed two-day countrywide bank strike on December 16-17, 2021 at the call of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella of the unions/associations of the banking industry. The strike was observed to oppose listing of Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021 in the business schedule for ongoing winter session of the parliament to facilitate privatisation of public sector banks as announced by the union finance minister during presentation of budget for 2021-22.

KARNATAKA: Farmers Assembly Demands Repeal of Three State Farm Laws

ON December 12, 2021, a large farmers' assembly was held at Belagavi in Karnataka under the banner of the Samyukta Horata (united struggle), Karnataka, to celebrate the repeal of the three central farm laws and to put pressure on the BJP's Karnataka state government to repeal the three different anti-farmer farm laws that it forced through the state assembly last year. The Karnataka state assembly was meeting in Belagavi from December 13.

WB: Farce in the Name of Elections

THE farcical election to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has once again exposed the kind of ‘democracy’ being practised in West Bengal. On the day of voting on December 19, TMC gangs captured hundreds of booths and much of the voting process was hijacked. Hoodlums were mobilised from outside the city and entire localities were prevented from reaching to polling booths.

THE farmers must launch a united and determined fight against the government’s farm policies which are against farmers. The recent victory of the farmers in Delhi should serve as an inspiration to all the fighting people, said AIKS joint secretary, Vijoo Krishnan on December 18, at Anantapuramu. He was addressing the participants of the Rythu Coolie Rakshana Padayatra, which culminated in a dharna staged outside the district collector’s office.
