Vemulaghat Struggle Reaches 250th Day

TelanganaRelay hunger strike launched by the farmers and other people affected under the proposed Mallannasagar reservoir at Vemulaghat village in Toguta Mandal of Siddipet district reached its 250th day on the February 9. This determined struggle of the people affected under the Mallannasagar reservoir, which is a part of larger Kaleswaram project with a storage capacity of 50 tmc ft water going on near the farm house of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has been supported by the CPI(M), several other political parties and mass organisations.

Scheme Workers Stage Protest in Jammu

Workers of various central government schemes including ASHA, Anganwadi and Mid-day Meal and those employed in contingency work staged a day-long protest in Jammu on January 20 in support of their long-pending demands. Hundreds of such workers from different districts of Jammu region participated in the protest. All workers holding red flags and placards in their hands raised slogans demanding minimum wage of Rs 18,000 per month and social security benefits.

DYFI Conference Resolves to Fight for Employment, Secularism and Democracy

Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) held its 10th all India conference in Kochi, Kerala from February 1-5, 2017 resolving to build widest possible unity of progressive youth in the country and fight for employment, secularism and democracy. 680 delegates representing one crore 15 lakh members assembled for the conference. Six delegates representing fraternal foreign youth organisations also participated.The conference was preceded by three jathas. One jatha carrying the torch to be lit at the conference venue started from martyrs’ memorial at Koothuparamba in Kannur district.

THE Kisan Sabha in West Bengal will adopt new ways to develop militant struggles of the peasantry. The state conference of the AIKS, after intensive discussion on the rural situation in the state, has called for new methods to deal with new emerging dangers in the countryside.Addressing the public meeting and the delegate session, Surjyakanta Misra, AIKS leader and CPI(M) state secretary emphasised on local level struggles. He said, firstly we will have to build up struggle within the village to achieve local level demands.

KERALA: Mock Trial of Modi Sends a Strong Message against Demonetisation

THE Mock trial of Narendra Modi held in all district head quarters of Kerala on January 24th evening sent a strong message to the central government against digitisation of transactions. Thousands of people gathered at all centres to register their protest against the hardships caused by demonetisation. People demanded the removal of all restrictions on cash withdrawal and a halt on imposing digitised money transactions.The mock trial was organised at the call of CPI (M) Central Committee which was held in Thiruvananthapuram in early this month.

Hundred days of Mahajana Padayatra

ON the completion of hundred days of Mahajana Padayatra of the CPI(M) in Telangana, Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M) addressed a public meeting held in Eturu Naagaram district. She congratulated the people for making the padayatra a success despite the cash crunch caused by demonetisation. She accused the Telangana state government of suppressing tribal population be foisting false cases on more than 800 tribal activists. She said that the CPI(M) played an important role in the passage of the Forest Rights Act.

West Bengal: Protests Erupt in Solidarity with Bhangar

THE CPI(M) and the Left parties held protests in the streets against the atrocities in Bhangar, where two villagers were killed in police firing. As the ruling party and police have forcefully entered the villages and are threatening them, the Left parties mobilised people throughout the state in solidarity with the struggling people of Bhangar.Hundreds of CPI(M) activists held a wildcat demonstration in front of Bengal Global Business Summit venue in Milan Mela in Kolkata. They shouted against police atrocities in Bhangar and blocked road for a while.
