Slum Dwellers Conference in West Bengal

MOVEMENT and mobilisation of slum dwellers in West Bengal is gaining momentum. This has been reflected in second state conference of Paschim Banga Basti Unnayan Samity(PBUS)- the largest organisation of slum dwellers in the state. The conference, held on December 1-2, in Kolkata, was preceded by organising slum dwellers at slum, town and district levels. In all 754 slum level committees were formed throughout the state, though, according to leaders of the PBUS, this covers only a part of the actual potential.There was organisation of slum dwellers in Kolkata and Howrah.

Singur to Raj Bhaban March in Bengal

THOUSANDS of peasants and agricultural workers started a two day march on November 28 from Singur, demanding remunerative price for produces, work for all and industries in the state. The march began from Singur as the place had seen both the destruction of industry and agriculture. The march will reach near Raj Bhavan on November 29.Addressing the gathering before the start of the march, AIKS general secretary Hannan Mollah said, a suicidal movement has forced the dismantling of a factory in Singur.

MAHARASHTRA: AIKS Rally at Nashik Condemns BJP Govt’s Inaction

On November 14, 2018, the AIKS Nashik district council led a massive 25,000-strong district-wide peasant rally to the Nashik district collectorate to demand urgent measures for drought relief and the implementation of the written assurances given by the chief minister after the AIKS-led Kisan Long March eight months ago. The rally comprised peasants in large numbers from nine tehsils of Nashik district.
