THE Trade Union International (TUI) Transport 15th World Congress concluded with resounding slogans of "Workers of the World Unite - TUI (T) Zindabad." The TUI (T) comprises transport, ports, fisheries, and communications and is an integral part of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). The Congress took place in Athens, Greece, from November 21-22, 2023.

Uttarakhand: CITU-Led Delegation Visits Collapsed Tunnel Site

A DELEGATION of the Uttarakhand state committee of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) led by Rajendra Singh Negi visited the site of the unfortunate accident at the under-construction Yamunotri National Highway Tunnel located at Silkyara in district Uttarkashi where 41 workers have been stranded for the past seven days.The delegation expressed its outrage at the delay in rescue work and demanded that FIRs be registered against the principal employer of the NHAI and the company under contract responsible for the construction of the tunnel.

Maha: CPI(M) Makes Headway in Gram Panchayat Polls in Palghar and Other Districts

THE CPI(M) made some headway in the limited gram panchayat elections held in Maharashtra on November 5, 2023. The results were declared next day on November 6. The sarpanch is now elected in the state through direct elections, with the whole village voting. Besides that, gram panchayat members are elected from various wards in the village. The CPI(M) won a total of 11 sarpanches and 133 gram panchayat members in these polls.The CPI(M) won the posts of 8 out of 13 sarpanches and 100 out of 167 gram panchayat seats in the Talasari and Dahanu tehsils of Palghar district.

Jharkhand: CPI(M) Holds Adivasi Rally in Ranchi

Privatisation in Railways: Private Sector’s Attempt to Enter Integral Coach Factory Prevented

ON November 6, 2023, the Joint Platform of ten central trade unions and independent national federations (CTUs) supported the demands and agitation of the ICF (Integral Coach Factory at Chennai) Joint Action Council opposing private sector’s entry in the ICF; and demanding withdrawal of the decision to handover manufacturing / maintenance of Vande Bharat trains to private sector within ICF premises.

TN: Farewell to N Sankaraiah in Chennai

THE mortal remains of N Sankaraiah, a founding member of the CPI(M), were cremated with state honors at the Besant Nagar crematorium in Chennai on November 16. The police rendered a gun salute to Sankaraiah, who passed away at the age of 102 in Chennai on the morning of November 15 after a brief illness. Upon learning of NS's demise, Party cadres from across the state rushed to Chennai in the thousands to pay their respects to the departed leader.

WB: Kolkata Erupts in Protest over Massacre in Gaza

IN keeping with its anti-imperialist spirit, Kolkata rallied to demand an end to Israeli genocide in Gaza. On November 8th afternoon, the peace-loving people of Kolkata responding to the joint call of ten Left  parties voiced their protest by joining a huge march from  Mahajati Sadan in central Kolkata to Ramlila Park in Moulali. Many people from the districts of South Bengal also came and participated in this march. Thousands of people shouted slogans against Israeli aggression while demanding an end to attacks on Gaza.

AP: Praja Rakshanabheri Campaign: Reaching People and Explaining Alternative Political Policies

THE CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh committee initiated a programme to engage with the public and explain the alternative political policies and Party's political stance. This two-month-long programme encompassed a two-day state-level seminar, held on October 7-8, participated by delegates from different districts. Seminars on 23 distinct issues were held at key centres and district headquarters across the state. On October 16, the Party's state committee convened to finalise the programme details, including jatha routes and mobilisation for the rally.
