AARM Campaigns for Feb 16 Grameen Bandh

THE Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch organised a demonstration at Butibori in Nagpur district, on February 14 to campaign for the rural India strike and to bring attention to the legitimate demands of the citizens of Butibori. It is noteworthy that Butibori was inaugurated as a 5-star MIDC area by the then prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi. However, following industrial development, numerous civic problems have surfaced.The atmosphere in Butibori is now polluted, affecting the Vena River, which local fishermen rely on for their livelihoods.

Tripura: Grameen Bandh and Industrial Strike Successfully Held

THE people of Tripura positively responded to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s call for rural India bandh and the call of the Central Trade Unions for industrial/sectoral strike on February 16. Defying the open threat from the ruling miscreants, and aggressive picketing by the BJP sponsored BMS workers against bandh, the peasantry and the working people of the state spontaneously abstained from the workplace in large numbers. Though it was not a general strike, the number of vehicles on the road was evidently low.

CONDEMNING the autocratic attitude of the union government in curtailing the rights of the states through various means, the LDF-led Kerala government has decided to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on February 8. The dharna was led by Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, joined by his ministerial colleagues, MPs, and MLAs from Kerala. Several chief ministers and ministers from non-BJP ruled states also expressed their solidarity with Kerala by participating in this significant dharna programme.

Red Salute to Comrade Anarul Islam

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) issued a statement on February 14, saluting the martyrdom of Comrade Anarul Islam who was brutally killed by the West Bengal police during his participation in the SKM-CTU joint mobilisation and civil-disobedience action held peacefully on February 13, 2024, in Domkal, Murshidabad district, West Bengal.
