RED volunteers have jumped into relief operations in the areas affected by Cyclone Remal in West Bengal. They are actively engaged in providing relief and rehabilitation to the people. Red volunteers, who provided assistance to people during the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, are once again attending to the needs of those affected by Cyclone Remal. They are moving around the affected areas on scooters and bicycles, delivering necessary relief materials to the people. Wearing their uniform of red T-shirts, they are found in many affected regions, clearing rubble, providing drinking water and food, repairing pumps, and taking people to safe shelters.
At a time of intense election campaigning, Red volunteers, consisting of students and youth, are focusing on relief work. Many of the young candidates contesting on behalf of the CPI(M) in the parliamentary elections are also members of the Red volunteer teams and have joined the relief efforts. Pratik Ur Rahman, contesting from Diamond Harbour, and Sarat Chandra Haldar, contesting from Mathurapur, are actively leading the relief operations in their respective areas. Srujan Chakraborty, CPI(M) candidate from Dum Dum and a Central Committee member of the Party, is also actively engaged in the relief work.
Red volunteers played an important role in taking people to shelters in the Motia Bazaar area in Kolkata. In Bashirhat, Nirapada Sardar, a CPI(M) candidate contesting from that seat, is working alongside the Red volunteers to bring out submerged water pumps and supply drinking water to the many islands in the Sundarban region.
Drinking water is a major issue in the Nandigram region in East Midnapore district. Similarly, many villages in the Sundarbans are also facing a drinking water crisis. Red volunteers are moving around these areas and trying to resolve these issues.
The Red volunteer force was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide relief to the people and consists of more than 8,000 students and youth who work as volunteers.
