HIMACHAL PRADESH: State Level Dalit Convention Held at Shimla

A STATE level convention on the issues of the dalits was held at Shimla on December 8, by the Himachal Dalit Shoshan Mukti Sabha (HDSMS). The convention was inaugurated by Subhashini Ali, vice president of the Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch. Rakesh Singha, MLA, Onkar Shad, CPI(M) state secretary and Vikram Singh also spoke in the convention.Subhashini emphasised the importance of the role of the Dalit Sabhas in the Hindi-speaking belt. She said the percentage of literacy amongst dalits is still not at par with the rest of the society.

UTTAR PRADESH: Bulanshahar Violence and Killings

DELHI: Workers Get Pay Hike from Nov 1, Min Wage Set at Rs 14,000

THE Supreme Court, on October 31, issued an interim order benefitting lakhs of workers in the unorganised sector in Delhi. As per the order, effective from November 1, 2018, the minimum wage of unskilled workers in Delhi is set at Rs 14,000 per month, a jump of 40 per cent, subject to final judgement.The interim order was issued against the judgement of Delhi High Court which had rejected the Delhi government notification on minimum wages dated March 3, 2017.

GUJARAT: CPI(M) State Workshop to Work for Success of All India Strike

A DAY after the CPI(M) Gujarat state committee meeting on December 8, a Party state workshop was held in Ahmedabad on December 9 to give a boost to mass front work in the state. It was attended by 67 state office-bearers and other main activists working on the trade union, kisan, women, youth, student and lawyers’ fronts from 14 of the 16 districts where the Party exists. It was the first time that such a workshop was being held in Gujarat.IMPORTANT ACTIONSThis workshop was being held in the background of some important actions led by the mass fronts in Gujarat.

KERALA: ‘Women Wall’ on New Year Day

KERALA will form ‘Vanitha Mathil’ (Women Wall) on January 1, 2019. This will be formed by over 176 renaissance organisations of Kerala. The ‘women wall’ will be formed from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, which is a distance of over 600 km.  A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting which was chaired by the chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan. This decision was taken in the backdrop of violence unleashed by the Sangh Parivar outfits after the decision of the Supreme Court to allow women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala temple.

Telangana Election Campaign Concludes

THE Telangana assembly elections are being held on December 7. The Bahujan Left Front (BLF) of which the CPI(M) is also a constituent is contesting all 119 seats in the state. The CPI(M) is contesting in 26 assembly constituencies.CPI(M) leaders including Sitaram Yechury, Manik Sarkar, Brinda Karat, BV Raghavulu and K Hemalata participated in the election campaign and addressed a large number of public meetings.Sitaram Yechury spoke in public meetings held in Mahbubabad, Wyra, Bonakallu, Miryalaguda, Chowtuppal and Ibrahimpatnam.

International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties

THE 20th International Meeting of Communist and Worker’s Parties was held from November 22-25, in Athens, Greece. Communist Party of Greece (KKE), which hosted the meeting had made excellent arrangements, which incidentally coincided with the centenary of the foundation of the KKE.The theme of this year’s IMCWP is ‘The contemporary working class and its alliance.
