LDM Protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Guwahati

THE Left Democratic Manch, Assam (LDM) organized a massive protest against the central government move to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 on January 7, 2018 in Guwahati. It may be noted that the people of Assam are agitating against the proposed bill, which seeks to give citizenship to the non-Muslim illegal-infiltrators rendering the Assam Accord(AA) meaningless. The AA sets the deadline at March 24, 1971 as the base year for detecting illegal infiltrators in the state. Several hundreds of people spontaneously joined the protest programme organized by the LDM Assam.

“So-called Cow Slaughter” – Frightening Implications

ON the December 3, 2018, remains of cow-flesh were found in a field in Mahav village, Bulandhshahr district. There was an uproar by people alleging ‘cow slaughter’ and, in a short time, hundreds of men collected shouting slogans about ‘mother cow’ and ‘mother India’. Some people filled a trolley with the remains and drove it to the main road in front of the Chingraoti Chowki (police post) and blocked the road.

No Wall, It was a Fortress More than 55 lakh women participate

JANUARY 1, 2019: It was no wall, literally it was a fortress. Tens of thousands of women gathered on the western side of National Highway to imprint a new history. The women’s wall became multilayer fortress in through all districts on the first day of 2019. The wall became a fortress of humanity, equality and unity. All sections of women comprising of agricultural workers, teachers, nurses, Kudumbashree women, coir and cashew workers, students and prominent writers, artists, actors joined the women’s wall.

History makes a giant stride, Women enter Sabarimala

ON the intervening night of January 1, a few hours after a women’s wall organized across Kerala, two women, named Bindu Ammini and Kanakadurga entered the Sabarimala temple at 3.45 am. They started their pilgrimage from Pamba at 1.30 am and reached Sannidhanam at 3.45 am, the sanctum sanctorum of Ayyappa temple under police escort in plain clothes.These two names are marked in the history as the ‘first women’ in the age group of 15-50 years to enter Sabarimala, after the remarkable judgement of Supreme Court on September 28 that allowed the entry of women without any age restriction.

Massive Peasant March in Siliguri

OVER Thirty thousand farmers and agricultural workers at the call of AIKS and AIAWU from six North Bengal districts flooded the streets of Siliguri in North Bengal , to protest against the anti farmer policies of the Modi-led Union government and the West Bengal state government on December 27. All Siliguri bound trains virtually turned into ‘Kishan Express’ on that day and a day before.

Left Democratic Front Expands in Kerala

THE Left Democratic Front (LDF) has expanded further in Kerala as four more parties, the Indian National League, Kerala Congress (B), Democratic Kerala Congress and Loktantrik Janata Dal join it, said A Vijayaraghavan, the convener of the front.While the Loktantrik Janata Dal is led at the national level by Sharad Yadav and Veerendra Kumar, MP, MV Sreyams Kumar is the chief at the state-level. The Democratic Kerala Congress led by Francis George, former MP, is a splinter group of Kerala Congress.
