KERALA: Munnar: The Post-Truth Politics

TODAY, Munnar is not merely the name of a region in the state of Kerala. It has evolved into a political-social-media matter. This shift has a devious political objective. This objective has not appeared all of a sudden. It had begun much earlier and displayed its potential on an earlier occasion as well.The publishers of the Oxford Dictionary have selected ‘post-truth’ as the word of the year 2016. The word depicts a situation where truths are campaigned as non-truths or vice versa. The socio-political campaign on Munnar will certainly fall in that category.

Maha: Mumbai Youth Rally against Atrocities on Minorities and Dalits

HUNDREDS of young men and women in Mumbai came out to join a youth rally organised by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on April 23 evening to protest against increasing atrocities on minorities and dalits. The rally, ‘Mumbai youth march’, started from Tilak Nagar and culminated in a massive public meeting at Ramabai Nagar in Ghatkopar.

KERALA: LDF Government to Repay Education Loans

In proud move to provide relief to the thousands of students and their families, the Kerala government has decided to launch a scheme to repay the education loans. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the scheme would be implemented with retrospective effect from April 1, 2016.Thousands of students who have fallen into the debt trap, have hailed the government’s decision through social media.

MAHARASHTRA: DYFI Holds Three Day State-Level Study Camp

THE Maharashtra state committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India organised a three-day study camp for its leading cadre from April 22-24 in Mumbai. Kumar Shiralkar, well-known writer and activist, inaugurated the camp which was attended by 160 delegates. Inaugurating the camp, he exhorted the youth to rally against the communal forces and also come out in struggle against the ill effects of neoliberal policies.

WEST BENGAL: Mass Rallies in Siliguri and Coochbehar

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury called upon the people of West Bengal to fight simultaneously against the BJP and the TMC to restore democracy in the state and defend unity of the people. Yechury attended massive rallies in Siliguri and Coochbehar and also addressed CPI(M) workers of the Darjeeling hill areas in Kurseong.In Siliguri and Coochbehar, Yechury alleged linkage between the TMC and the BJP and said, both are playing the card of polarisation. While the BJP is using majority communalism, TMC by helping minority communal forces, is actually giving strength to the BJP.

BIHAR: Rising Miseries of the People

BJP has acquired the most aggressive posture and after Uttar Pradesh, Bihar is the next target, where it wants to expand its activities by fomenting communal trouble in different parts of the state. Nawadsh, Bhagalpur, Madhubani, Rohtas, Darbhanga have experienced such nefarious activities by the RSS and its affiliates but they have failed to ignite a fire.Ramnavmi was celebrated in such an aggressive way which was not seen before. Swords, spears and other such weapons were openly displayed during Ramnavmi processions all across Bihar. There is fear among the minorities.

JAMMU AND KASHMIR: CPI(M) Condemns Attack on Nomadic Bakerwals

EXPRESSING grave concern over the attack on the nomadic bakerwals at Talwara, Reasi on April 22, by a mob allegedly led by cow vigilantes, Sham Prasad Kesar, regional secretary CPI(M), Jammu, has demanded immediate  and stern  action against the culprits.  Minor child, a woman and an elderly person are  stated to have been seriously assaulted and beaten up resulting in grave injuries to them. Pertinent to mention here that the nomadic bakerwals of Jammu region  used to move to Kashmir valley  with the onset of summer season with livestock including sheep, goats, cows etc as a routine exerci
