HARYANA: Municipal Workers Struggle Emerges Victorious

THE Nagarpalika Karamchari Sangh (NKS) an affiliate of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh (SKS) Haryana , organized a successful 16-day strike of the urban local bodies workers of the state. The main demands that were achieved include ending the contract system of employment and putting them on the rolls of the municipalities. A committee was also formed to frame a policy to regularise these workers.

BIHAR: People’s Unity and People’s Rights Campaign Held Successfully

ON the slogan of people’s unity and people’s rights the entire Patna city was in the movement.The preparation for the success of this movement was done since long. After the state convention, in a majority of the districts, joint conventions were organised in which mass organisations participated. A 30 point demand charter was prepared which also contained some of the national demands.Movements in the country have been led on these demands and now the results can also be seen.

TELANGANA: Com P Sundarayya’s 33rd Death Anniversary Observed

RICH tributes were paid to Comrade P Sundarayya, the founder-general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on the occasion of his 33rd death anniversary. Delivering Sundarayya Memorial Lecture on Law, Courts and Society, at a function organised by Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally in Hyderabad on May 19, Justice B P Jeevan Reddy, a former judge of the Supreme Court, explained that Sundarayya, through his simplicity and life-style, continued to be a source of inspiration for the present-day generation.

This new spate of eviction of opposition and trade unions from their offices started on  May 8.

TRIPURA: Attacks on the Left Continue Unabated

NOT a day has passed without at least one incident of violence against the Communists in the state since March 3 afternoon when the Assembly election results were announced and the BJP-Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) took to power.Nandalal Debbarma, 81, a CPI(M) leader had donated a piece of his land at Veluarchar in Sonamura sub-division to construct CPI(M) local committee office. Seeing the office vandalised, the senior leader, rueing the loss, said that he would have taken a blow to his head instead of seeing the Party office destroyed by the BJP goons.

Sterlite – A Timeline

1993 – district collector, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra directed Sterlite to suspend construction work following year-long agitation by local people.1994 – Sterlite enters Tamil Nadu. NOC given by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) carried a condition that the factory should be located 25 kms from the Gulf of Mannar.1995 – TNPCB authorizes Sterlite to commence construction though it violated the set condition and the plant was built within 14 kms of Gulf of Mannar.

KERALA: RSS Goons Kill CPI(M) Leader

IN yet another act of brutality and terror of the RSS, one more CPI(M) worker was killed on May 7, in Mahe, a part of Puducherry state near northern  border of Kannur district.  Comrade Kannippoyil Babu, former councilor of Mahe municipality and CPI(M) Mahe local committee member was gruesomely murdered by the RSS goons.Comrade Babu had escaped a murder attempt last year.
