Punjab: Comrade Surjeet’s death anniversary observed
ON December 8, the death anniversary of Comrade HKS Surjeet, former general secretary of the Party was observed at his native village in Bundala Manjhki in Jalandhar district of Punjab state. A large number of Party workers and sympathisers participated in the function from all over Punjab. Leaders of various political parties and state committee members of CPI(M) were also present.
Ashok Dhawale, Central Committee member of CPI(M) was the chief guest. Former central minister, Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, Congress MLA and former captain Indian hockey team for olympics also addressed the function.
Dhawale unfurled the Party flag before the function. Later floral tributes were paid at the portrait of Comrade Surjeet by all the participants.
Ashok Dhawale while addressing the gathering highlighted the struggle of Comrade Surjeet against Britishers during the independence movement. He said Comrade Surjeet fought against communalism, against anti-nation and anti-people policies of successive governments after independence. Dhawale explained that how after disintegration of Soviet Union, CPI(M) under his leadership mobilised all communist parties from all over the world in a convention in India. It was well explained to the world that Marxism - Leninism is a science and can never fail. Surjeet had remarked that the mistakes in implementing Marxism would be identified and rectified. He rose to be a tall leader even at the international level. Twice he mobilised all anti-BJP and anti-Congress parties to form governments, Dhawale said.
Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon, state secretary, Punjab CPI(M) , Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, former central minister, Pargat Singh, hockey Olympics team captain and MLA along with leaders of various political parties and state secretariat members of Party addressed the function. Gurchetan Singh Bassi presided over the function.
