WEST BENGAL: Left Demands Arrest of Indicted TMC Leaders

THE Central Bureau of Investigation finally filed a first information report (FIR) formally starting its probe against top Trinamool Congress leaders who were seen in a video footage “receiving illegal gratification”, or cash for unspecified favours.Narada news video footage, shot in 2014 but shown in 2016 showed how top TMC leaders, including ministers, members of parliament, mayor of Kolkata received money.The Calcutta High Court in a verdict delivered on March 17 ordered the CBI to investigate if people in “high public offices” were guilty of corruption.

West Bengal Protests Attempts of Polarisation

SANGH Parivar’s attempts to sow seeds of polarisation in West Bengal have elicited reactions from various quarters. RSS-VHP-BJP combine chose Ramnavami and Hanuman Jayanti to create tensions and disturb the environment. In many areas, they carried swords in religious processions. Instead of taking immediate steps, TMC leaders and activists joined them.Left and progressive secular sections of the state have taken the challenge of resisting communal forces. Numerous rallies, processions have been organised throughout the state to condemn the provocation of Sangh Parivar.

March 19 Study Circles in all Branches: A Unique Experience

ALONG with our continuous struggle for restoration of democracy and against fascistic attacks by the TMC and its government, West Bengal state committee has placed special emphasis on Party education among the comrades. State level permanent party school (Promode Dasgupta Education Centre) is functioning regularly. State level schools are held regularly. At the district level, party schools are being held quite regularly.  Some of the district committees have set up their own permanent schools.

WEST BENGAL: Sangh Parivar Targets Bengal

RSS-BJP has planned a massive expansion programme in West Bengal and communal polarisation is, as usual, the method they have chosen. In a latest attempt, Ramnavami festival has been organised politically with the Sangh backing. Viswa Hindu Parishad has decided to take lead and they have planned rallies throughout the state for five days. Rallies will be taken out in Kolkata too.Ramnavami is not a very big religious festival in Bengal, though it is observed in some quarters. But politicisation of the festival has led to huge campaign by Hindutva forces.

IN the recent period, some positive changes are discernible in the movements and struggles in the state and in the participation of workers, peasants and many sections of the people in them. Even though threats and terror perpetrated by the ruling party and the police administration persisted, the response and participation of the people increased substantially.The kisan conferences in different districts and the presence of people in big gatherings at the open sessions of these conferences have set the pace for these movements and struggles after the last assembly elections.

Police Firing Killed villagers in W Bengal: TMC Government Exposed in Bhangar

THE Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has got exposed in Bhangar, where two persons were killed in police firing while they were protesting against forcible land acquisition. The bloodshed came after months of protest by villagers in Bhangar in South 24 Parganas. From 2013, multi crop agricultural lands were forcibly acquired for a power grid station. Moreover the land loot was organised by mafias led by the ruling party leaders. Arabaul Islam, the notorious TMC gangster in the area, is the main culprit behind this land grab and ousting of peasants without compensation.

Undefeated Five Decades of Ganashakti

“THERE can be no alternative to socialism in the history of human civilisation”, said veteran CPI(M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. He was speaking on the occasion of Ganashakti, the daily organ of CPI(M) West Bengal State Committee, completing its 50 years of glorious existence. To commemorate the occasion, a special gathering was organised at Promode Dasgupta Bhavan, the Kolkata district headquarters of CPI(M) on January 3, 2017.

WEST BENGAL: Communal Strife in Dhulagarh Exposes TMC Rule

“I have never imagined that we have to appeal for communal amity in Bengal, which was regarded as outpost of peoples’ unity. Entire country revered Jyoti Basu’s Bengal as the example of communal harmony.”CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury expressed his anguish in these words while addressing a public meeting in Dhulagarh in Howrah district.Dhulagarh has been affected by serious communal strife, instigated by the TMC and the BJP. Many homes, shops were destroyed or burnt; families attacked, people forced to flee.

Chit Fund Sufferers Rally in Kolkata

WHILE long queues wait outside banks and ATMs in Kolkata, thousands marched demanding their lost money in chit funds. West Bengal chief minister’s histrionics on demonetisation issue cannot erase the truth that her party was the biggest beneficiary of illegal chit funds in the state. Nearly 20 lakh people lost their hard earned money to cheating by companies like Saradha and Rosevalley.
