TRIPURA: Left Front Declares the List for the Crucial ADC Elections

ON March 27, the Tripura Left Front Committee announced its list of candidates for the forthcoming elections of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), to be held in May. CPI(M) Tripura state secretary, Bijan Dhar released the list at a press conference. He was accompanied by CPI(M) state secretariat member Gautam Das, CPI leader Prashanta Kapali, RSP leader Dipak Deb and AIFB state secretary Shyamal Ray. Bijan Dhar said, like all other elections, the Left Front will fight this election unitedly.

THE Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), an open political organisation of the outlawed NLFT outfit, which let loose blood bath annihilating several hundred people, both Bengalis and tribals, for more than a decade in Tripura, has again started playing with fire raising demand for a separate state in the name “Twipra Land” with the territorial area of existing TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council). On 23 August last, they organised an aggressive and violent procession in Agartala town and spewed most provocative anti-Bengali hatred.

SETTING another example of its alternative pro people policy outlook and what can be done even with meagre resources, the Left Front government in Tripura became the first state in the country to introduce cash subsidy on mustard oil and pulses for all the families of the state through the public distribution system. In a function at Rabindra Shatavarshiki Bhavan on December 2, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar formally launched the scheme.

CPI(M) Organises Protest against MGNREGA Dilution

As part of the countrywide protest day to save MGNREGA, CPI(M) in Tripura organised protest meetings and dharnas in front of the offices of central government throughout the state on November 26. Two hour long dharna and protest meetings at more than 50 places across the state witnessed militant participation of thousands of people. At all the venues of the protest meetings from 12 pm to 2 pm the mood was clear -- the people of Tripura shall not take this attack on the livelihood of the rural people lying down.

Changes in MGNREGA Will Affect the Poor: Manik Sarkar

TRIPURA Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has written a letter to the prime minister, on November 3, apprising him of the problems faced by the state and its people with regards to MGNREGA allocations. Sarkar said despite being the best performing state in carrying out MGNREGA projects, the central government has reduced allocation for Tripura, and requested the prime minister to look into the problems of the state sympathetically and advise the concerned ministry to release funds immediately.

TRIPURA: Booklets Released Marking the 50th Anniversary of CPI(M)

TO mark the 50th anniversary of the CPI(M) a series of four booklets were released by the Tripura state committee of the Party on October 1, 2014. The booklets were released by Central Committee member Badal Choudhury, CPI(M) state secretariat member Narayan Kar, PCM Matilal Sarkar and Satyabrata Bhattacharya.

Tripura Marches for World Peace

AS part of worldwide protest against imperialist war and for sustained world peace, the people of Tripura in their thousands joined in protest marches in various parts of the state, including the capital city of Agartala, on September 1, the day commemorating the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. In every sub-divisional headquarters, all sections of people joined in colourful march depicting the destruction and devastations of the war and with the appeal to make the world more conducive for living of every human being.
