AIDWA Hails SC Judgement on Equal Coparcenary Rights for Women

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in a statement issued on August 10, has expressed its agreement with the latest three bench Supreme Court judgement which clarifies the law relating to a daughter’s right under Section 6 of the amended Hindu Succession Act (HSA) in 2005. The amendments in the HSA in 2005 made the daughter an equal coparcener (member) in the joint Hindu family governed by the Mitakshara law and removed the restriction on her from asking for partition of a joint family property.

Women’s Organisations to Protest on Aug 28

AN online meeting of the following women’s organisations – All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA), Pragatisheel Mahila Sanghatan (PMS), All India Agragami Mahila Samiti (AIAMS) and All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS) held on July 19 and 30, 2020 has decided to hold protests all over the country demanding food, work, health services and for protection of democracy.

AIDWA Begins Newsletter

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has in the month of July 2020 taken two new initiatives, as per the decisions of its central secretariat.First, AIDWA has started its online bi-monthly newsletters in English and Hindi to propagate AIDWA’s campaigns, struggles and views on various current political, economic, social and legal issues in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown. The first newsletters were circulated on July 1, 2020.

WHAT has come to be known as the shadow pandemic has affected women across the capitalist world in varying degrees. This refers to the specific impact of the corona virus, the lockdown and policies or lack of them which impact on women being women. Along with the problems that women face in the world of work which we had discussed in the first part, this includes increase in domestic violence, in the increased burden of domestic and care work and the resulting impact on women’s health.

Withdraw Order on Suspension of PcPNDT Rules: AIDWA

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association, in a statement issued on April 7, has strongly opposed the unjustified move of the Department of Health and Family Welfare suspending rules 8,9 (8) and Rule 18A under the PcPNDT Act, ostensibly due to the coronavirus pandemic. This suspension goes against the main purpose of the Act to stop sex selection by means of certain basic and vital compliances that genetic labs and clinics etc have to follow in keeping records and submitting these for scrutiny to the appropriate authority and for re-registration.

Women Resolve to Defend Constitution & Women’s Rights, Oppose Violence

MARCH 8 International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated all over the world to reiterate the struggle for equality, justice and a violence free life for women. The German revolutionary Clara Zetkin proposed in the International Socialist Women’s Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark in August 1910 that March 8 be celebrated as International Women’s Day. 100 women delegates from 17 countries agreed with the idea as a strategy to promote equal rights including suffrage for women. Women demanded that they be given the right to vote and to hold public office.

AIDWA Welcomes Upholding of Women’s Rights in Army

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on  February 19, has welcomed the judgment of the Supreme Court that all women officers in short service commission are eligible for permanent commission and command posts in all branches of the army irrespective of the number of years of service. Women in the army have been fighting for this for the last ten years when the Delhi High Court granted them permanent commission in the army.

DELHI: Take Action against Harassment on Girl Students: AIDWA

THE All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) has, in a statement issued on February 10, expressed shock and strongly condemned the harassment of girl students by a group of pro-CAA supporters inside Gargi College on February 6. The incident took place during the three day Gargi Women's College Festival 'Reverie' was being celebrated. A group of pro-CAA protestors passed by and broke into the premises. They scaled the walls of the college to enter it. They were drunk and shouted Jai Shri Ram slogans. They molested and manhandled the girls.

AIDWA Welcomes Life Imprisonment for Former BJP MLA

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on December 21, has welcomed the sentencing of former BJP MLA Kuldip Singh Sengar to imprisonment for the remainder of his life, in the Unnao rape case by the Delhi CBI Court. It also welcomed the Court’s directives stating that adequate steps should be taken by the CBI to ensure the life and liberty of the survivor and her family is protected by providing a safe house and change of identity if so desired by the family.
