Arrest the Attackers of Jharna Das: AIDWA
THE All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in a press note issued on January 19, strongly condemned the murderous assault on its national joint secretary and Tripura state secretary, Jharna Das Baidya, MP Rajya Sabha on January 17 by a gang of 30 BJP hoodlums in Agartala town, capital of Tripura. The AIDWA alleged that these hoodlums followed her on motorbikes when she was returning home, threatening and abusing her. They were armed with lathis, hockey sticks, iron rods, etc. These goons barged into her house and ransacked it. They stole cash and other valuables from the house. Her personal bodyguard was also seriously injured and had to be hospitalised.
Jharna Das reached the offices of the Left movement when she learnt that they were being attacked by the BJP goons. She tried to help in rescuing the activists who were victims of this murderous assault. The goons then started chasing her with murderous intent. AIDWA has denounced the negligence of the police who failed in their duty to protect the people in Tripura.
Immediate arrests of all the culprits and strict action against police officials for dereliction of duty was demanded by AIDWA. Jharna Das Baidya must be given protection and the Tripura state government must compensate for the property destroyed, the AIDWA demanded.
