Profit-Investment Gap in the Corporate Sector

PRIVATE corporate sector in India seems to have recorded historically high rates of profits during the post-Covid three years. The average net profit in a quarter suffered a steep decline during the successive quarters ending on March and June 2020 but since the quarter ending September 2020, the net profits of corporate sector recovered by about seven times compared to the pandemic period and touched a record level in the recent period.In spite of high rates of income growth and increased share of profit within income, investment growth didn’t show adequate response.

Right to Strike at Stake

FOR the last one decade, there are systematic attacks on the workers’ right to strike that have been relentlessly unleashed across all continents. And now, this right is being more resolutely challenged by employers group in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) itself where unfortunately the class collaborationist workers’ group meekly gave in to the employers’ proposal.       It is not surprising to find that the right to strike is not set out explicitly in ILO conventions and recommendations given the class character of ILO.

Transport Workers’ Federation Demands Hold on Implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023

THE All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation has written a letter to the home minister on June 27, demanding a hold on the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita-2023 Act. The federation emphasized the need for discussions with unions and stakeholders in the transport industry.The letter cited previous correspondence and representation given by the federation on  January 2, 2024, and a notification given by the ministry dated February 23, 2024.

THE Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), in a statement issued on June 19, has called on the government to engage with the real representatives of farmers in the upcoming pre-budget consultations. This follows the announcement that the finance minister will hold in-person consultations with various stakeholders, including farmer associations and agricultural economists, on June 21, 2024, to gather ideas for the union budget 2024-25.

Maha: SFI Holds State-Level Camp at Talasari

THE SFI Maharashtra state committee held its four-day state-level study camp from May 30 to June 2, 2024, at the Comrade Godavari Shamrao Parulekar Bhavan at Talasari in Palghar district. It was the first time that Palghar district was hosting a state SFI camp. It was attended by 160 student activists from 17 districts. They included 40 girl students.The SFI in Maharashtra for many decades has the tradition of holding regular study camps every year at the beginning of the academic session in June. However, this tradition was interrupted due to the Covid pandemic in 2020-21.
