Corporate Takeover of Agricultural Markets

THE new National Agricultural Marketing Policy (NAMP) Framework, released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MA&FW) on November 25, 2024, has sparked widespread criticism and protests from farmers' organisations and experts alike. Following a call from the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), farmers across the country staged protests on December 23, 2024, burning copies of the Marketing Policy. MA&FW provided stakeholders with just 15 days to submit responses, which is an attempt to rush through the policy to serve corporate interests.

J&K: CPI(M) Criticizes Removal of Sheikh Abdullah’s Birthday, Martyrs’ Day from Holiday List

TERMING the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor administration to abolish holidays on Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah's birthday and Martyrs’ Day on July 13 as an attempt to distort history, CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami criticised the move.In a statement issued on December 30, Tarigami said that Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a towering personality, and his contribution to the freedom struggle and empowerment of the people of J&K cannot be ignored.

DUJ & NAJ Welcome Supreme Court Order on Mobile Privacy

THE Delhi Union of Journalists and the National Association of Journalists, in a statement issued on December 26, have welcomed the Supreme Court order upholding individual privacy and restraining the Enforcement Directorate from accessing and copying content from various electronic devices seized during raids. Both the media organisations have applauded this move to protect citizens' private, personal and professional communications.In this context, the DUJ and NAJ have condemned the Kerala Police's action against journalist Aniru Asokan of Madhyamam daily.

Uttarakhand State Conference of CPI(M)

THE Eighth State Conference of Uttarakhand committee of CPI(M) was held at Karnaprayag from December 22-24, 2024. The conference began with an impressive rally and a well-attended public meeting. In total, 22 members of the state committee, 142 delegates and 13 observers attended the conference which also included 23 women delegates. State secretaries of CPI and CPI(ML) greeted the conference. On behalf of the Central Committee of the Party, Polit Bureau member Tapan Sen and Central Committee member Vijoo Krishnan attended the conference.

Madhya Pradesh State Conference of CPI(M)

THE 17th State Conference of CPI(M) Madhya Pradesh was held from December 15-17 in the town of Mhow in Indore district. The conference was hosted by the smallest unit of the Party in Madhya Pradesh, where the majority of members are tribal and landless agricultural workers. Despite the fact that a large portion of its ranks often migrates elsewhere in search of work, the unit successfully organised this conference.
