CPI(M)  Polit Bureau met in New Delhi on March 12-13. It has issued the following statement on March 13 RECENT ASSEMBLYELECTIONSThe BJP was elected to form governments once again in all its incumbent states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. With intensified communal polarisation, control over large sections of the media and immense money power, BJP could retain its Uttar Pradesh government with a reduced majority. The people of Punjab voted for the Aam Aadmi Party rejecting the traditional two parties – Congress and Akali Dal.

AIKS Supports Anganwadi Workers’ Struggle

THE All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued on March 3, has extended its support to the consistent struggle of the courageous anganwadi workers and helpers who have carried on the struggle undeterred by the attacks unleashed. As the struggle has continued for more than 85 days now, the Manoharlal Khattar led BJP government has resorted to threats, harassment, mass arrests. Striking anganwadi workers, helpers and their family members, who were travelling from different parts of the state to participate in the march to Haryana assembly on March 3, 2022 have been arrested.

Sanctions within a Regime of Neo-Liberalism

BEFORE joining the neo-liberal order, India used to have “rupee payment arrangements” with the Soviet Union and Eastern European socialist countries under which the main international reserve currency, the US dollar, was used neither for settling transactions nor even as the unit of account in terms of which the trade-related transactions were denominated. The dollar in short was used neither as the means of circulation, nor even as the unit of account under these “rupee payment arrangements”.

CITU Condemns Police Repression on Anganwadi Workers & Helpers

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) issued a statement on March 3, condemning the repression let loose by the BJP government of Haryana against the anganwadi workers and helpers who have been on strike since December 8, 2021.The Khattar government let loose repression on the striking anganwadi workers and helpers who had given a call for ‘march to assembly’, on March 3, 2022, which was the 85th day of their strike. The CITU said that the Haryana police under the dictates of the state chief minister, Manohar Lal Khattar intimidated and harassed the striking workers.

Rising Attacks On Women In West Bengal: Women’s Organisations Write to NCW

A JOINT memorandum was submitted on March 7, 2022, to the chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma by three women’s organisations – AIDWA, NFIW and AIPWA. This memorandum was in connection to the violence unleashed by the TMC government in West Bengal against women during the recent period.The three women’s organisations stated: “Women are facing an extremely insecure atmosphere with a threat to their lives and well being in West Bengal. The TMC ruling party activists have unleashed a reign of terror and brutality against women.

CPI(M) Kerala State Conference: A Road-Map to March Forward

THE Kerala state conference of the CPI(M) that took place in connection with the 23rd Party Congress to be held  at Kannur from April 6-10, 2022, was convened from March 1-4,  at Marine Drive, Cochin. The conference took place in an atmosphere of euphoria and festivity as it was the first state conference held after the LDF ensured a historic continuity in government for the first time in the history of the state.

West Bengal: Sustained Student-Youth Protest

STUDENTS and youth in West Bengal are leading a sustained fight demanding arrest and punishment for the culprits in the Anis Khan murder case. Anis, a student leader and social activist, was killed by men in police uniform in Amta in Howrah district.Students and youth organisations have staged a sustained sit-in in front of Amta police station after the brutal murder. DYFI, SFI and other Left student and youth organisations had called for a rally towards Howrah Rural Police Superintendent’s office in Panchla on February 26.
