CITU Runs Campaign, MAY 30 to June 15

AS a follow-up of the call given by its all-India conference at Kannur (Kerala) from April 4 to 8, the May 26 meeting of the state CITU office bearers decided to launch a mass campaign and agitation on the demands which were highlighted during the February 20-21 strike by all the central trade unions and on the burning demands of various sections of the workers in Punjab.

In consequence, actions were organised during the period from May 30 to June 15.

CPI(M) Workers Court Arrest All Over Rajasthan

IT was a pride moment for the state of Rajasthan that over ten thousand people, despite the blazing heat at 48 degree Celsius of temperature, and notwithstanding the season of marriages in the state, marched and courted arrest in mass civil disobedience in Rajasthan on May 31, as part of a countrywide action programme. As reported earlier, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat courted arrest outside the Collectorate in Jaipur, along with 500 protestors, on this day.

Next day, all the prominent newspapers carried the news along with photographs.

Mayhem in Panchayat Elections

AS this report goes to press, the fate of panchayat elections in West Bengal is hanging in absolute uncertainty. The continuing refusal of the state administration to clarify the security arrangements, incessant requests of state election commission in this regard, coupled with widespread terrorisation by the ruling party have created an unprecedented situation in the state. Panchayat elections have been held seven times during the period of Left Front government, but the state has not experienced such a catastrophe.

Ghadar Centenary in England

THIS year is the year of Ghadar Party Centenary and it is being celebrated all over the world. Ghadar Party was formalised in America in 1913 with an aim to fight against racism and inhumane treatment Indian people were experiencing in America, Canada and many other countries. They soon realised that such treatment was due to British colonisation. They redirected their aim to work to free India from foreign rule that had impoverished Indian people, which forced them to travel thousands of miles away from the homeland in search of livelihood.

SFI Organises School For Hindi States

THE Students Federation of India (SFI) organised a successful three days long school for its activists in the Hindi speaking states was successfully in Chandigarh from June 3 to 5. A total of 91 activists from 10 states participated in the school which was first such exercise after a similar school in Delhi in 2007. Spread over five sessions, the school covered Marxist philosophy, current political situation, identity politics, organisation, and educational policy framework.
