Condolence Meeting for Com Vijender Sharma Held

WITH a resolve to carry on Comrade Vijender Sharma’s unfulfilled tasks, a condolence meeting on August 14 paid homage to the departed comrade. Hundreds of Party workers, members of the intelligentsia, Delhi University teachers participated in the meeting held at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. The meeting adopted a condolence resolution moved by the Delhi state committee secretary PMS Grewal. K M Tiwari conducted the proceedings. Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat underlined the all-round contribution of Comrade Vijender Sharma. His contribution in evolving an understanding of the impact of neo-liberal policies on higher education came for special mention. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member A K Padmanabhan emphasised the role Comrade Vijender Sharma played in the working class movement as a whole. He mentioned Comrade Sharma’s contribution in publishing the CITU’s magazine, Working Class. DUTA president Nandita Narain gave details of Comrade Vijender Sharma’s role in building and guiding the teachers’ movement not only in Delhi University but also at the all-India level. On behalf of the Democratic Teachers Front, Rajiv Kunwar recounted the stellar role Comrade Vijender Sharma played in building democratic and left consciousness among teachers in Delhi Univeristy. CPI leader D Raja, Kiran Walia of the Congress party, CITU Delhi state committee secretary M L Malkotia and AIDWA leader Asha Sharma also addressed the gathering.
