May Day 2021 – Working Class Fights for Defense Against Deadly Pandemic

Besides thousands of lives lost, working people are faced with a dark future as earnings dwindle and a hostile government tries to crush their voices.ON this May Day, working class of India is reeling under the brutal onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic which has so far taken over lives in India and affected a staggering number of person since last year. While the deadly disease can affect anybody, it has had the most catastrophic effect on poorer sections of society.

Worse, the scourge of the pandemic continues to intensify.

PM urged to Cement Unity of all people during COVID Crisis

THE joint platform of Central Trade Unions and Federations has urged prime minister, Narendra Modi to cement a proactive unity of all people and to meet the challenge posed by the calamity of the second wave of COVID-19.In a letter to the PM on April 28th, the CTUs have said that it is necessary for all sections to feel that the government is taking care of them, especially the toiling masses, who are forced to leave their homes in search of livelihoods.

Polit Bureau Communiqué

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met online on May 5, 2021. It has issued the following statement:UNABATED COVID UPSURGETHE upsurge of the pandemic continues to take a heavy toll of human life all across the country. The Polit Bureau expresses its grief at these avoidable deaths and conveys condolences to the families of all those who have lost their lives.Despite all appeals, the central government has failed to ensure the flow of oxygen to save human lives.

TN: Doors Shown to BJP’s Anti-Federalism

THE people of Tamil Nadu resoundingly rejected BJP and its game plan to piggyback on the AIADMK to get a foothold in the state in the assembly elections. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance won with a thumping majority of 159 seats of  the total 234 while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led front was limited to 75 seats of which 65 were bagged by the AIADMK.The elections were held on April 8 and the votes were counted on May 2 amid Covid-19 lockdown.

India in Deathly Grip of Covid-19 as Modi Government Continues its Andher Nagari Policies

THE Covid-19 pandemic that has India in its deathly grip, is nowhere near its end. India is now registering numbers that have broken all “records”. Currently more than half of all new cases per day in the world are from India! While the number of daily new cases have started to show a slow decline, it is accompanied by a drop in the number of tests conducted. The drop in new cases may therefore be due to fewer tests rather than a real drop in new cases. Are we running out of test kits and testing personnel for conducting tests?

THE incompetence of the Modi government is starkly visible in its handling of the current crisis. It fares even worse on the vaccine front. Its belief in the ideology of free-market capitalism is that the market will magically produce whatever we need. This is why it starved the seven public sector vaccine manufacturing units (Down To Earth: COVID-19 vaccines: Waiting for advantage India, 17 April 2021) of any support. And, it also gave the public sector vaccine, Covaxin, developed by ICMR and National Institute of Virology, to a private company, Bharat Biotech.
