LDF Landslide Victory in Kerala

WITH massive landslide victory in elections for the 14th assembly elections in Kerala, CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front is set to form the government.  CPI(M) led LDF has won 91 seats and the Congress led United Democratic Front managed to get just 47 seats. For the first time in the history of the state, BJP got one seat with the tacit understanding with the Congress. Fighting against both fronts, former chief whip, P C George won in Poonjar. The ruling front has got routed in Kollam district where the LDF won all 11 seats with a huge margin.

RSS attacks in Kerala

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on May 19, 2016.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the murderous attacks launched by the RSS in various parts of Kerala following their miserable defeat in these elections.

In one such attacks, bombs were hurled at an LDF victory rally in Dharmadam constituency, which elected CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, killing one CPI(M) worker and seriously injuring five others.

22-year-old construction worker named Devendra, from Jharkhand, was killed in an accident at the AP temporary secretariat complex construction site at Velagapudi village on May 10 where a Government Interim Complex (temporary secretariat) is being constructed.The incident took place when the worker was cleaning a cement mixer with a crow bar. He was trying to clean the inside of the drum when he was sucked in and got crushed to death. It has emerged later that the worker was not wearing the mandatory crash helmet.

Tackle drought on war footing

THE Supreme Court of India has held the central government accountable for the failure to put in place comprehensive steps in dealing with one of the worst droughts that the country is facing in recent memory. The Court also criticised the state governments of Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana for an “ostrich-like attitude” to drought-hit areas. The Court issued a series of directives to the central government and the states on tackling the drought as a disaster.

Foreign Funds for Political Parties: Dangerous Step

THE BJP government has taken the dangerous step to allow foreign companies to fund political parties in India.  Till now, as per the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), political parties were prohibited from receiving foreign money and this included foreign companies and their subsidiaries in India.So far, a company operating in India was considered foreign, if 51 percent or more of its share capital was from a foreign source.

ASSAM: Assembly Elections: Close Fight between Congress & BJP

IN this assembly election 2016, Assam has registered highest ever polling percentage in its electoral history. The overall poll percentage has been recorded at 84.72 percent.
