COP22 at Marrakech: New Threats and Old Challenges - I

DESPITE the brave face put up by the Moroccan hosts and the participating delegations from almost 190 countries, the  22nd edition of the world's annual climate summit at Marrakech, was held with a gun pointed at their heads by the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump. While the finger on the trigger may have been that of the newest hero of global reaction, taking world climate action hostage had the support of the most backward sections of the big capital cheered on by a groundswell of support from some of the most backward sections of the US polity.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on November 29, 2016.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) greets the lakhs of people who came out into the streets on November 28 to protest against the attack on their livelihoods and the burdens imposed upon the people through the withdrawal of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have misleadingly called the national protest day as a Bharat bandh. None of the opposition parties which joined the protest had called for a Bharat bandh.

Prime Minister Betrays Commitment

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on November 25.THE Modi government has betrayed the commitment made by the prime minister on November 8 that people will be allowed to exchange the old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes till December 30.The prime minister had made this announcement on November 8 in his address to the nation. Not only that, he had further stated that the limit for the exchange of old notes will be increased from November 25 till December 30.

25 NOVEMBER 1956 – Fidel Castro, along with 81 other revolutionaries, among whom were Che Guevara and Raul Castro, sets sail on the Granma from the Mexican port of Tuxpan for Cuba, to start an armed struggle for liberation.25 November 2016, exactly sixty years later, Fidel Castro sets sail alone, leaving behind multitudes who claim, 'Yo Soy Fidel or I am Fidel'. Entire Cuba reverberated with this slogan, with many from all around the world joining the chorus.

Nov 28 Protests against Demonetisation of Currency Notes Gets Good Response

Lakhs of people came out into the streets on November 28 to protest against the BJP government’s attack on their livelihoods and the burdens imposed upon the people through the withdrawal of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. Below we publish reports from the states.  KERALAA protest march was taken out by the LDF in Trivandrum against the government's demonetisation policy which has created cash crisis in the country. Kerala government has been in the forefront of the struggle and has demanded that cooperative banks be allowed to exchange notes.

October Revolution Centenary Celebrated in Mumbai

THE Left Front in Mumbai organised a big procession from Kotwal Garden, Dadar (West) to Prof. BN Vaidya Hall, Dadar (East) covering a distance of 1.5 kilometres and a public meeting at Prof. BN Vaidya Hall on November 7 on the occasion of the onset of centenary year of Great October Revolution resulting in the formation of USSR. The Left Front in Mumbai comprises of CPI, CPI(M), PWP, Lal Nishan Party, Lal Nishan Party (Leninist), CPI(ML) Liberation and SUCI (C).

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on November 26.COMMANDANT-IN-CHIEF Fidel Castro Ruz, outstanding leader of the Cuban revolution, staunch internationalist and architect of socialism is no more.The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays its respectful homage to the memory of this towering revolutionary figure who did so much to shape the revolutionary movements in the second half of the 20th century.Fidel Castro brilliantly led the revolutionary uprising against the hated Batista regime in Cuba.

Step-Up Combat to Change the Policy Trajectory

THE 15th conference of CITU started with great enthusiasm at Comrade Samar Mukherjee Nagar in Puri at 10.00 am on November 26, 2016.  AK Padmanabhan, CITU president hoisted the red flag of CITU to mark the commencement of the conference. FIDEL Castro was a towering revolutionary figure of the twentieth century. The revolution he led in tiny Cuba had an impact over time which was magnified manifold.The overthrow of the hated Batista regime led to the first socialist revolution in the Western hemisphere.  Under Fidel’s dynamic leadership, Cuba emerged from the shackles of semi-colonialism and of being a playground for the mafia and the wealthy from the United States.
