Journalists & Press Workers Call for Unified Action

A JOINT extended meeting of the executive committee of the Press Unity Centre and the Delhi Union of Journalists has resolved through a reorganised structure to move jointly in matters pertaining to the serious situation effecting hundreds of journalists and press workers in Delhi in particular with the widest possible national alliance based on agreed principles and a minimum programme.

Libya Unraveling

WITH the country spiraling into violent disintegration, Libyans obviously did not have anything much to cheer about or celebrate on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of their country's so called “liberation”. In fact many Libyans have now become openly nostalgic about the Gaddafi years, when peace and tranquility prevailed and their country enjoyed the highest standards of living on the African continent. Libya had the highest GDP per capita and life expectancy in the continent. Netherlands had more people living below the poverty line than Libya four years ago.

17th Conference of Great Britain’s Association of Indian Communists Held

THE 17th conference of the Association of Indian Communists (AIC), Great Britain was held in Southall West, London on March 29. The conference was preceded by a public meeting on March 28 evening, which was addressed by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M A and documentary filmmaker Leslee Udwin among others. The meeting was jointly organised by AIC and the Indian Workers' Association (IWA) and commemorated the martyrdom of 'Shaheed-e-Azam' Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Class Struggle and Collective Bargaining Correlated

COLLECTIVE bargaining must not be viewed as a mere exercise for achievement of economic benefits in isolation from the perspective of class struggle. CPI(M) State Conference Calls for Restoring Eroding Autonomy of J&K

BSNL Employees to Hold Strike Demanding Revival of BSNL

THE entire 2.25 lakh employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), both the executives and the non-executives, are going on a country wide two-day strike on April 21-22, 2015, demanding immediate steps for the revival of BSNL. Thousands of BSNL employees conducted a March to the Parliament on February 25, and a memorandum was submitted to the prime minister’s office. Strike notice has been served on March 12, 2015.

Countrywide Strike in Road Transport on April 30

ROAD transport workers, under the banner of various centrally affiliated federations and also those independently functioning have been called upon to observe a countrywide one day strike on April 30. This strike will involve all sections of passenger traffic – autos, bus, both private and public – and also goods transport of different sections. This is the first time such a countrywide strike has been called in the road transport sector.

CPI(M) Workers Protest Spurt in Murder in TN

CONDEMNING the spurt in cases of murder, many of them due to caste issues, in Thirunelveli and Tuticorin districts of Tamil Nadu, CPI(M) cadres observed one day's fast on March 31. Led by Party state secretary G Ramakrishnan, more than 2,000 cadres observed the fast at Jawahar Grounds, Palayamkottai in the city of Thirunelveli.Nearly 100 brutal murders have taken place in both the districts in the past 10 months. Of these, 25 per cent were due to caste related issues.
