Vizag Fest Conquers Hearts and Minds of Thousands

VIZAG Fest 2015, organised as part of the 21st Party Congress of CPI(M), drew a large number of people belonging to different age groups and sections. The festival, an exhibition reflecting the development of Visakhapatnam and north coastal Andhra, their literary, cultural, and fine arts aspects, along with seminars, literary sessions, and a book exhibition, was held at Andhra University Engineering College ground from April 10 to April 19. Those who witnessed the magnificent events at the fest were conquered by its uniqueness and grandeur.

21st Congress of CPI(M) Adopts Draft Political Resolution

ON April 16, in the afternoon session, the Draft Political Resolution was introduced by Prakash Karat, general secretary of the Party. He said the Draft Political Resolution was discussed by the entire Party and amendments and suggestions were sent in strengthening the resolution. This resolution charts out the way for the coming three years and formulates the political tactical line for the coming three years. Highlighting the gravity of the current juncture, he said that the advent of the Modi government represents the consolidation of the rightward shift in Indian politics.

Convene Special Session of Parliament To Discuss Issues Concerning Dalits

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has written to the minister for parliamentary affairs, Venkaiah Naidu, on May 6, 2015 asking him to take measures to convene a special session of parliament on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, to discuss issues concerning the dalits in our country. On Transport Strike

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on April 30, 2015.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) congratulates the road transport workers and employees for their successful and massive all India strike. Workers belonging to the public transport, private buses, autorickshaws, taxis and trucks numbering two crore workers participated in the strike.

Successful Strike in West Bengal

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) congratulates the people of West Bengal for the successful general strike and hartal they observed today in the state.

Despite large scale arrests, threats, intimidations and the unleashing of unprecedented violence by the state police and the ruling Trinamool Congress, the hartal evoked a spontaneous response from all walks of people in the state.

Protest Fuel Price Hike

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the massive hike in the prices of petrol and diesel announced by the Modi government.

This will lead to the cascading of the inflationary spiral imposing unprecedented burdens on the working people, once again in a big way.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon the people to protest against this latest imposition of burdens on their livelihood.

70th Anniversary: Victory over Fascism: An Epochal Event

THE Second World War, or, the war against fascism, was one of the truly epochal events of the 20th century. The war was like no other in history because of its global scale and the immense destruction of human lives and productive capacities. It also exemplified the collision of various historical forces set in the background of the worst crisis faced by capitalism and imperialism. The barbarous force which emerged in the inter-war period, between the First and the Second World Wars, was the phenomenon of fascism and its German variant Nazism.

Massive Rally against Land Acquisition Ordinance

THE Bhoomi Adhikar Sangharsh Rally on May 5, 2015 saw thousands of peasants, agricultural workers, adivasis and toiling masses marching to the parliament with the demand that the Land Acquisition Ordinance 2015 be fully scrapped and warned the BJP-led government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that they will not allow the loot of land and deliberate destruction of peasant agriculture.

Undermining Parliamentary Democracy

THE CPI(M)’s recently concluded 21st Congress spoke of the trident of challenges facing the country and the people. The aggressive pursuit of the neo-liberal policies of economic reforms; the relentless onslaughts on the secular democratic foundations of the Indian republic by the sharpening of communal polarisation and the movement towards an authoritarian rule through the erosion of democratic institutions and methods considered sacrosanct in a parliamentary democracy, constitute the current constellation of challenges before us.
