US Exposed As Russia Intervenes in Syria

THE war in Syria took a significant change with the entry of Russia. Russian president Vladimir Putin in his address to the UN General Assembly on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, questioned US hegemony and its uncalled for interference in the internal affairs of sovereign countries. Two days after, on the request of Syrian government, Russian air force began its targeted attack on ISIS.

Malaysian PM under Mounting Pressure over Corruption Scandal

A POLITICAL storm has been buffeting Malaysia's prime minister, Najib Razak, for the last couple of months. A corruption scandal, whose magnitude has dwarfed previous scams, has galvanised the people in many cities, including the capital, to stage massive anti-government protests. $US700 million from the State run investment fund called the 1MDB allegedly found its way into the personal bank account of the prime minister. The story first surfaced in July this year.

KERALA: CPI(M) Scores Victory in Local Body Elections

IT is a classic case of securing the bastion even before the battle has been fought. When the deadline to file the nominations ended on October 15, CPI(M) Kannur district committee had a big reason to cheer. Ten CPI(M) women candidates in the newly carved Anthoor municipality had been elected unopposed. No political rivals, either the Congress or the BJP, had turned up for filing nomination. Nomination of four UDF candidates has been rejected by the election commission in the final scrutiny. Out of 28 wards, 14 have been won by the LDF without a contest.

DSMM Demands Stringent Action into Attack on Dalit Family in Faridabad

Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch condemns the heinous incident of burning to death of a Dalit family in Faridabad in the early hours on October 20. Two year old Vaibhav, ten months old Divya died before reaching hospital in Delhi. Rekha, their mother is undergoing treatment in the ICU with serious injuries. Jitender Kumar, their father received burn injuries on his hands. Petrol was poured into their room, in which they were sleeping, through a window that was open and they were set alight.

DELHI: CPI(M) Delegation Meets CM

A CPI(M) delegation met the chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal on October 21 and discussed some immediate and urgent issues. The delegation led by Brinda Karat, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member,  comprised of state secretary KM Tiwari, and secretariat members Asha Sharma, Anurag Saxena, Ravindranathan, Neelgagan Singh and Maya.The delegation pointed out disturbing features in some areas in south, north and east Delhi where some platforms of Ramlila celebrations were being misused to promote communal slogans. It asked for political vigilance.

IN a meeting which I attended recently, a senior retired Air Force officer talked about the protest of the writers as a ray of hope in an otherwise bleak landscape. He was referring to writers returning their awards in protest against Mohammad Akhlaq's lynching in Dadri.Two more incidents with extreme right-wing formations killing Muslim youth in cow related incidents have occurred, even after the furore over Aklaq's death. Panchajanya, the RSS mouthpiece, and the chief minister of Haryana, ML Khattar, both have justified Aklaq's murder.
