SFI Holds AMU Unit Conference

THE second unit conference of SFI AMU unit was successfully held on May 8, on the theme of attack on educational institutes and on right to dissent.  Earlier, the permission for the conference was explicitly denied by the proctorial office. The conference started with flag hoisting and paying tributes to the martyrs. Prof. Irfan Habib in his inaugural address asked the students of Aligarh Muslim University, to fight against all type of communal forces, not only RSS-BJP led Hindu communal forces, but Muslim and Sikh communal forces also.

DSMM Holds Convention in Jalandhar

DALIT Shoshan Mukti Manch, Punjab organised a convention at Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall in Jalandhar on May 15. A presidium consisting of Ram Singh Noorpuri,  Gurmesh Singh, Sunita Noopuri, Satpal Banur, Hari Ram Muktsar and Sher Singh Farwahi conducted the proceedings.V Srinivas Rao, central secretariat member of the CPI(M) while addressing the convention lamented that the condition of dalits continues to be miserable even after 68 years of independence.

World Poverty

THE International Labour Organisation (ILO) brings out every year a publication called World Employment and Social Outlook. The current year’s report, released on May 18, is sub-titled “Transforming Jobs to End Poverty”. It provides estimates of the level of world poverty and of the amount of income transfers to the poor required for ending world poverty.Before getting to these estimates, it is worth discussing how poverty is defined by the ILO.

CITU Condemns Brutal Attacks in West Bengal

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), in a statement issued on May 24, has strongly condemned the brutal and barbarous mass scale attacks on the people in West Bengal, unleashed by the Trinamul Congress after the announcement of the results of the assembly election.

TMC goons have been unleashing violent attacks on the democratic organisations and the leaders and cadres of the working class movement, during the last few years. Now, in the post-election situation, the TMC party is unleashing horrific violent attacks on the toiling people.

AIDWA Condemns Heinous Attacks in Bengal

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association, in a statement issued on May 23, has strongly condemned the heinous attacks unleashed by the winning Trinamul Congress activists on the women in West Bengal as part of the post-poll violence. Most of the AIDWA activists are attacked and hundreds had to flee from their residence in villages and cities. AIDWA leader Mukta had to leave her home in Hugli. ICDS worker Indrani Mukherjee was attacked in Bankura. Sukla Ghosh, another activist had to leave her residence in Chandrokona in Paschim Medinipur.

Recently, two Muslim women have appealed to the Supreme Court to ban the practise of ‘unilateral triple talaq in one sitting’.  The SC has admitted their pleas and has asked the central government to give its response in the matter before it gives its own verdict.  What is the CPI(M) stand on this issue?

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on May 22.

THE BJP is levelling false allegations about violence by the CPIM) against BJP workers in Kerala. BJP workers have held a demonstration at the Central Committee office of the CPI(M) and indulged in vandalism.

The BJP leadership is adopting a hypocritical and dishonest position about what has actually happened in Kerala.

West Bengal: Denounce This Terror

THE Trinamool Congress won a decisive victory in West Bengal getting 72 per cent of the seats in the assembly. But obviously, this is not enough for Mamata Banerjee. For her, the CPI(M) and the Left Front have to be not only electorally defeated, they have also to be eliminated as a political force. That is why, she is fulfilling the threat she made during the election campaign that she would retaliate inch by inch after the election.
