When Electoral Democracy Itself Comes Under Question

THE unfolding developments surrounding the Nandigram and Rejinagar by-elections in West Bengal represent far more than routine political rivalries. The sudden withdrawal of candidates, the freezing of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) name and symbol, the resurrection of decades-old police cases to arrest opposition figures, and an escalating internal crisis within the Election Commission of India (ECI) collectively point to a severe systemic threat.

Gyanesh Kumar Has No Right to Continue! Reform The ECI

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on September 23, 2026

THE explosive revelations in the Indian Express (September 23) surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls raise serious questions not just about the process, but more importantly about the integrity of the Election Commission of India (ECI) itself.

Rajasthan Local Elections: CPI(M) Forms Board in Nokha for the First Time

THE results of elections to 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan indicate a closely contested political scenario, with no single party securing a clear majority in a large number of bodies. According to available figures, BJP secured 35.3 per cent, Congress 34.36 per cent and independent candidates got 27.47 per cent of the polled votes. Among other parties, RLP secured 0.95 per cent, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) 0.47 per cent, CPI(M) 0.32 per cent, BSP 0.29 per cent and BAP 0.17 per cent of the votes.

The Great Bank of Baroda Loot

A FEW days ago, Subhash Chandra, a former Member of Parliament of the ruling party and the owner of Zee Group, which helped bring them to power, was hard to miss in the media. That was when the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), passed by the Indian Parliament in 2016 for the benefit of corporate giants, and the associated 'haircuts' came to light, at least to some extent. Some people were shocked to hear that 99.97 per cent of the dues simply vanished into thin air. Those who were shocked should remain vigilant.

Lethal Recipe for Destruction of Indian Economy

EVEN before the dust had settled down over the bombastic and unbelievable claim by Modi that in the last quarter Indian economy has grown by 7.8 per cent, the charge that the government has capitulated before the US and the Trump administration over the imposition of 0.4 per cent charge in some categories of digital transactions through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has completely exposed the pusillanimity of our economic administrators. A host of issues do call the bluff that the Modi government indulged in.
