Chhattisgarh: Will the Rule of Law Prevail or Will There be Mob Lynching in the Name of Cow?

THE obsession of killing humans in the name of cow protection has now reached Chhattisgarh. Despite the clear murder and identification of some of the killers, if a case of culpable homicide is being made against unknown attackers, then it seems that the killers have got permission from the top to carry out mob lynching in the name of cow protection.

Services and Capital Accumulation

COMMODIFICATION of services is one of the major avenues of expanding the realm of capital in the neoliberal age. Commodity for Marx has no reference to corporeal reality. Something which is produced for sale whether it is goods or services does not make a conceptual difference in Marx’s notion of commodity. For Marx, commodity is a social relationship independent of its physical nature. The expansion of services in the count of GDP is partly because of commodification of services which were earlier supplied from a community or collectively owned pool.

Karnataka: Prosecute Prajwal Revanna for the Crimes against Women and Beyond

A SHOCKING case of crimes against women in Hassan, Karnataka, widely known as the ‘Prajwal Revanna pen-drive case,’ involves numerous horrifying crimes, each more shocking than the other. These include the sexual harassment and rape of hundreds of women who approached Prajwal Revanna, in his capacity as MP of Hassan, for redressal of their grievances over a long period. None of these cases were registered, nor were FIRs filed, due to the influence of former prime minister, Deve Gowda’s family.

What is To Be Done about Unemployment?

A DISTINCTION is drawn in economics between demand-constrained systems and resource-constrained systems (which for simplicity and symmetry we shall call supply-constrained systems). In the former, an increase in output can occur if there is a rise in aggregate demand without causing any scarcity-induced inflation; in the latter, output is constrained either by capacity being fully used up, or by the scarcity of some critical input or of foodgrains or of the labour force, so that a rise in aggregate demand, instead of raising output, simply causes scarcity-induced inflation.

WB: Trinamool Unleashes Post-Poll Mayhem

WITH Trinamool's decisive win in  29 seats out of 42 in West Bengal's 18th Lok Sabha elections,  the BJP-backed media's projected ‘air of triumph,’ fuelled by fake exit polls has completely vanished. The BJP secured 12 seats, a significant drop from 18 last time. The Left-Congress which had jointly fought the elections, suffered a setback, with Congress securing only one seat in Malda Dakshin.

AIRTWF Demands Immediate Reduction in Fuel Prices, Criticises Toll Hike

THE All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation (AIRTWF) has issued a press statement on June 3, demanding the Government of India to immediately reduce the prices of petrol, diesel, and gas. The AIRTWF pointed out that the government has lowered the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) while neglecting the financial burdens faced by the common man, highlighting the government's bias towards the affluent. In a recent move, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) increased toll charges by 5 per cent starting June 3, 2024.

Migrating Workers Provide Wealth for the World

A FEW weeks ago, the International Organisation of Migration (IOM) released its World Migration Report 2024. Most of these reports are anodyne, pointing to a secular rise in migration during the period of neoliberalism. As states in the poorer parts of the world found themselves under assault from the Washington Consensus (cuts, privatisation, austerity), and as employment became more and more precarious, larger and larger numbers of people took to the road to find a way to sustain their families.
