Fifty Years of Independence and Calcutta AICC Session

Below we reproduce the article written by Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet published in People’s Democracy on the 50th anniversary of India’s Independence.THE AICC session at Calcutta from August 8 to 10, 1997 adopted, amongst others, Political Resolution, Economic Policy Resolution, International Resolution and a Golden Jubilee Resolution. This session being held on the eve of the Golden Jubilee of Indian independence provided an opportunity for remembering the sacrifices made in the course of the struggle for freedom.

Imploding the PSUs from Within

THE hoarding raised just outside the police headquarters in Delhi, by the RSS’s mouthpiece, Panchjanya is a pointer to the fact that the public sector is doomed to be ruined. Panchjanya, which is a weekly newspaper of the RSS held a conference on sustainability in Hotel Le Meridien, Delhi. Something which was not even imagined a few years back, the paper has spent lavish money to hold such a conference. This hoarding still hangs on the walls despite the fact that the event was held a month ago.

Roll back these GST Hikes

It has issued the following statement:GROWING ASSAULTS ON PEOPLE’S LIVELIHOODWorld Bank data shows that the annual growth of the Indian economy over 2020-22 was a mere 0.8 per cent.Unemployment: According to the CMIE Report for January-April 2022, the number of unemployed in the age group of 20-24 years was over 2 crore – a staggering unemployment rate of 42 per cent. In the 25-29 age group, this was over sixty lac - an unemployment rate of 12.72 per cent.

VETERAN CPI(M) leader and ‘Emeritus Tamilar’. N Sankaraiah turned 101 on July 15. Considering the prevailing spread of Corona in the state, the CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee has advised the party units to celebrate the occasion in a safe manner within their areas and not to disturb the leader by rushing to his house.

Municipal elections: Shivraj Sarkar getting Surgery for Severed Nose

“IF such administration and competent officials have to distribute the certificates of election, then the elections should be stopped. I have seen administration officials in my constituency, campaigning in favour of the BJP, and casting votes. Whoever the BJP asks, the administration should give the election certificate to him,” Narayan Tripathi, MLA from Maihar legislative assembly of Satna district of BJP has made this allegation about his own government.The BJP has neither responded to these allegations nor has there been any clarification from the government.

Assault on Environment Regulations Continues

Conference of All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation Held in Hisar

THE 11th national conference of the All-India Road Transport Workers’ Federation (AIRTWF), held in Hisar in Haryana from July 16 to 18, resolved to carry out a united struggle to protect the industry and for the welfare of workers.CITU national secretary and MP, Elamaram Kareem inaugurated the conference. In his inaugural speech, Kareem appealed to the workers to prepare themselves for intensifying the struggle against the anti-people and anti-working-class policies of the Narendra Modi government.
