The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on July 17, 2014.
WITH the ongoing attack on Gaza which has led to the death of 220 Palestinians including 40 children, it was expected that the Modi government would condemn the Israeli aggression and demand a halt to the attack. Instead of this, the government has adopted a dubious stand which condones the unjustified Israeli aggression.
AT the call of the CPI(M) Odisha state committee, demonstration and dharna programmes against the Railway Budget were held before different railway stations of Odisha on July 9, 2014. Suresh Panigrahy, state secretariat member of the Party, Sala Marandi, president of Odisha Adivasi Adhikar Manch, Sarat Das, SFI state secretary led the demonstration.
At Cuttack, the demonstration was led by Rabinarayan Mallick, secretary Cuttack district committee of CPI(M), Pratap Mohapatro, Cuttack local committee secretary, Nirmal Das and others.
THE 25th Martyrdom day of Comrade Arun Deb was observed throughout the state of Tripura. On this very day in 1990 during the reign of semi fascist terror in the state under the Congress-TUJS government, a member of the SFI Tripura state committee and a reporter of Desher Katha, Comrade Arun was butchered by the Congress goons at a polling booth at Ishanpur of Sadar north. Comrade Arun was serving as the polling agent of the CPI(M) candidate in the general election of the TTAADC.
VETERAN CPI(M) leader, freedom fighter and trade union leader Comrade Alluru Satyanarayana passed away in Hyderabad on 04th July. He was 86 years old and is survived by his wife Alluru Manmohani (Ammaji), a prominent AIDWA leader and three daughters. His body was brought to Party state headquarters M B Bhavan and kept for two hours when scores of activists came and paid their homage to the departed leader. CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu placed the Red flag on the body and paid his homage.
THE All India Kisan Sabha dips its red flag in honour of the legendary revolutionary Comrade P K Chandranandan who passed away on July 2, 2014 at Alappuzha, Kerala. He passed away after a heart attack following a brief illness. We express our grief and heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and all his fellow comrades.
THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions in a statement issued on July 4 has denounced the move by the BJP government in Rajasthan to dilute and scrap the “right based provisions for employment” under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) as reported by the press. The move initiated by the chief minister of Rajasthan to propose various changes in the MNREG Act and the various propositions made thereon are basically designed to strip MNREGA of the legal guarantee for employment and convert the right based Act into a scheme.

Urging the masses to ensure huge victory for the Left Front, Manik Sarkar severely criticised the Modi government for its anti people steps including hike in rail fare, freight charges.
THE All India Agricultural Workers Union has in a statement issued on July 8, said that the poorest people in the country will not accept the manner in which the NDA government at the centre has hurt the thousands of migrant labourers driven from their villages to seek distress employment in the cities and other states, by sharply raising the passenger rail fares by over 14 % which they will not be able to afford without taking higher debts than before from local money lenders or brutal labour contractors whose criminal rates of interest are painful already.
THE birth centenary of Jyoti Basu - one of the most revered Communist leaders, was celebrated in West Bengal on July 8 with a variety of programmes including blood donation camps, seminars and cultural programmes. A central public meeting was organised by Jyoti Basu Birth Centenary Committee at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata, attended by thousands of people and addressed by Left leaders and intellectuals. Red flags were hoisted at the CPI(M) offices throughout the state.
