THE Bihar elections have resulted in a resounding defeat for the BJP. The alliance of the JD(U)-RJD-Congress has come to power with a big majority. This election verdict will have important ramifications for the politics of the country.The BJP had sought to repeat the tactic it employed in the Lok Sabha elections – talk of development interspersed with communal appeal. In Bihar, hundreds of RSS cadres were deployed as during the Lok Sabha polls to take the communal message to the people and create a polarisation. At the top, both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah spewed anti-Muslim rhetoric.

THE CPI(M) congratulates the people of Bihar who have given a resounding defeat to the BJP alliance in the assembly elections. They have rejected the rank communal campaign conducted by the BJP, led by the Narendra Modi-Amit Shah duo with divisive issues like cow and beef and the bogey of reservations for minorities.

NOVEMBER 1 was the birth anniversary of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, who was murdered in Pune in August, 2013. So writers, artists and intellectuals from all directions came to Mavalankar Hall at New Delhi to join a 'Pratirodh' programme. At 2 PM, a huge presence of writers, artists, scientists, historians and cultural activists was witnessed at the Hall, who came to express their solidarity with the protest movement that erupted after the brutal murder of eminent Kannada writer Prof.
THE 17th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 30-November 1, 2015.
The meeting provided an opportunity for exchange of perspectives and information on the latest developments in each country and region and the response of Communist, Left and working class forces to defend the rights of the people and against various forms of oppression, exploitation and discrimination.
ON November 1, the Turkish people went to the ballot box. Voting is mandatory in Turkey, so the turnout is always high. It was just above 84 percent this time. What the Turkish people voted for, however, was unclear.The victory, plainly, was of the AKP – the Justice and Development Party – of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It won just short of half of the votes, giving it 315 seats in the parliament of 550. The threshold for governance is 267, which the AKP was not able to attain in this June’s parliamentary election.
