Samsung Struggle in the Era of Neoliberalism: A Class Perspective

THE 38-day-long strike by Samsung workers at the Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai is an important class struggle of this century in our country in general, and in Tamil Nadu in particular. The experiences and lessons of this heroic struggle will serve as a beacon for the contemporary working class and all trade unions.The CITU state committee organised a state-wide picketing and road blockade in solidarity with this struggle, with thousands of workers participating. CPI(M), CPI, VCK, and CPI(ML) jointly conducted a demonstration in Chennai.

Public Money for Corporate Profit

THE central government has come up with an employment-linked incentive (ELI) scheme with an outlay of Rs 2 lakh crore for 5 years in the 2024-25 Union Budget. The scheme is said to be framed to create jobs and to enable skilling the youth for employment. It consists of Rs 1.07-lakh crore Plan A, Plan B & Plan C funding to enable 3.1 crore employment generation, Rs 63,000 crore for internship programme for skilling 1 crore youth in 5 years, and Rs 30,000 crore for upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

THE Tenth Asia Pacific Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba was successfully held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China on October 29-30, 2024. The meeting unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the international demand for an end to the unjust and criminal policy of blockade imposed by the United States government on the Republic of Cuba for the last 64 years. On the same day, the United Nations Assembly has come out with a resolution demanding the same and endorsed by 187 countries – including India – out of 193 countries.

AIKS Condemns BJP Govt’s Failure in Management of Fertilisers & Procurement

THE All India Kisan Sabha, in a statement issued on November 6, has registered its strong protest against the BJP-led union government over the non-availability of adequate Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and other fertilisers in several parts of the country when the sowing of Rabi crops was at its peak. Farmers were made to run from pillar to the post for getting the important fertiliser –DAP when it was most required.
